Deer ‘czar’ Kroll releases final report; Walker pledges action
July 10, 2012 at 4:32 am in RiverTowns.net
Gov. Scott Walker’s office has released the final report assembled by the Texas consultant hired to take a clinical look at Wisconsin’s Whitetail deer management practices. Among his recommendations are simplifying regulations and reducing the number of deer management units. Continue Reading

It’s good to see that all the BS spewed about this by the Libs during the recall was just that, BS. But that’s normal…
Hot debate. What do you think?

You’re so witty and yet ill informed at the same time. You don’t represent your cause very well Alice. Glad you’re on the other side.

from page 80 of the consultant’s report:
“We believe the single most important challenge facing deer management today in Wisconsin is
the relationship between the deer hunters and the WDNR. Over the past decade, in its attempts
to eradicate CWD, and to balance an overly-abundant deer herd with its environment, the WDNR
implemented increasingly aggressive policies. The agency was doing what it felt needed to be
done to meet their governmental responsibility to properly manage all the wildlife, and their
habitats, for all the people of Wisconsin. Unfortunately, these increasingly aggressive deer
management policies led to anger, frustration and distrust of the WDNR for significant numbers
of hunters…”
This is why I’ve become a small government proponent: government employees get tunnel vision, needing to justify their jobs by enforcing their perceptions of policy ( in the copied text, the consultant states it as: “doing what it FELT needed to be done”), letting common sense go by the wayside while forgetting the people they serve pay their salary.

i read page 80 of the report too and it is unfortunate that you just gleaned the part that you thought would fit in the vain of this forum. I believe the title of that page was ‘ADMONITION’ and had considerably more content than you posted. Must just be trying to dig at Alice some more. I encourage everyone to read the full content of page 80 of the report to draw there own conclusions.

Eric,
My encounters over the years with local/state/fed government agencies have led me to the conclusion most (not all) govt employees are driven by a need to demonstrate their importance to “the system”, ignoring common sense and the impact of the agency decisions on the people they are supposed to serve. The title of this pg 80 SECTiON, “admonition”, comes on the heels of the consultants words of praise about DNR employees and their qualifications…which makes it pretty important.
I wish you would explain your comment “vain of this forum”, as I expressed my opinion based on too many government agency encounters. I guess if you work “in the system”, or have only had limited and/or positive experiences with government agencies you may feel I gleaned…imo, the consultant, in describing the DNR, described the actions of many government agencies. And btw, it was the sportsmen/women who felt so bullied by the DNR that they turned to the legislative branch for relief, which ultimately led to this report.
Congrats on actually looking at pg 80, did you read any more parts of the report?
