Fix the streets right, replace the water and sewer mains so the nice folks at PW&U don’t have to come and tear up that shiney new blacktop.

I remember waiting till after the dedication of 1st st downtown to dig up for a water leak in front of the old Fitchners meat market. The city DOES NOT replace the water mains under a street they used to replace the old lead lines but they haven’t done that for 10 plus years.
If they are in a real bad area, areads with a lot of leaks they may replace the lines with plastic mains, the sewers usually get “bandaid” fixes

I sure hope they do but I have my doubts, its a matter of money to do it right and replace 100 year old mains costs its more political to put a coat of “paint” over the problem (blacktop in this case) and just move the problem down the road. Replacing lead lines that go to individual houses was cheap and a good idea-for those that don’t know, water lines on houses built before the war were probably lead I know my house was built in 1932 I have a lead line

This is worse than what EGF looked like after the flood back in ’97. At least we had streets for hauling our flood debris away. I can’t imagine bringing groceries or anything else to these homes. Thankfully the effected areas will get the financial help they need. I wish everyone the best.

Great headline: “Obama declares Northland flooding a federal disaster.” If that’s not the pot calling the kettle black …
Hot debate. What do you think?
