Editorial: Liquor store decision is disappointing

A few weeks ago in this space we laid out the reasons we thought moving Farmington’s city-owned downtown liquor store to a new location on Highway 3 was a good idea. The liqour store profits benefit the entire city of Farmington! It benefits our park and recreation department making Farmington a safe, liveable and beautiful city with lovely parks, trails, ponds and streams/rivers. In addition the liquor store profits help to reduce taxes. If moving a city operated business to a better location to increase profits, my question is: why not?

The Farmington Municipal Liquor Store provides much needed revenues that benefit the Farmington Park and Recreation Department. It also helps to reduce taxes. Because of our superior park and trail system, Farmington is a safe, lovely, and liveable city. Relocating a city operated business because it benefits the whole city should be considered.
