VIDEO: Heat causes street to buckle in Grand Forks
July 2, 2012 at 3:11 am in Grand Forks Herald
It got so hot Sunday a section of a Grand Forks street buckled. Chunks of concrete, pushed 2 feet above the ground. Street workers were sent out, they say a combination of moisture and heat expanded the concrete. It creates enough pressure to cause it to buckle.

Aha, have to watch the video… still – if you write a little blurb about it, you’d think the location would make the cut.

The streets didn’t issue a press release so the writer didn’t know waht to say.

The first line is the first spot and then there’s three or four throughout the article…If you read it that is…..I guess you wanted it on the picture huh?

The story was updated later in the day, after additional incidents were reported; the original story did not give a location.

Yesterday I went to the Firefighter’s Hall & Museum in Mpls. They opened a new exhibit to honor the four year anniversary of the 35W bridge collapse. The photos the Star Tribune took of that event are something to see.
And….I got a ride in a fire truck. It’s a nice place to spend an afternoon.

The 2500 block of South 38th Street in Grand Forks is closed today as crews work to repair a buckle in the road caused by recent warm temperatures. The city also urges residents to use caution on 32nd Avenue South near the 1200 block because the road did buckle today.
Whose going to pay for this? I don’t remember this happening in town before.

Usually the problems come in the spring thaw….This happens, but I too don’t think it happens a lot like this……..Oh hell…Must be that deadly “Obamacare” Sneaky how it effects everything like that…..

Or it could be that the council gave the contract to a “friend” whose work is habitually inferior.

Or it could be that the engineering firm who designed the road structure should have built in some sort of expansion joints into the project. I’m not doubting that the work was inferior, but it isn’t always the install that is incompetent. Engineers think they are god and half of them can’t think outside of a box.

Well, Maverick. Maybe you should have became a civil engineer so you could solve those problems for us.

This happens all the time when there is excessive heat for a few days.

the same thing happened a few years ago in a few locations, even a big one not far off of Demers on a side street between washington, columbia. roads here are designed more to handle the spring situations than the heat.

It happened in the TC’s today as well….on I-94. Two westbound lanes of traffic were closed until Tuesday morning.

They just showed a video on the WCCO News of a highway in Eau Claire, WI. A motorist stopped to take a video of a buckle in the highway. As she was filming a car came down the highway, hit that spot, and went airborne end over end.

This just happened in Duluth. A live volcano sprang up inside the tunnel, killed 57 people and destroyed 3 miles of concrete freeway.

I would never. Just reporting the happenings as they emerge. It was so hot that I saw a person jogging just burst into flames on the spot.
