One death is too many, that is for certain.
I have to ask though, are we seeing a trend here? Is this actually happening frequently?
Word of mouth and the local media can work for now- everyone in town knows what happened, hopefully they will remember if they have a notion to swim across the river. Let’s not overthink this and try to solve a problem that does not exist.

Word of mouth and the local media? You are kidding right? That is the best way to address this situation? Sounds like a lot of the kids swimming down there are from Minnesota, and I doubt even the Wisconsin teens are busy reading the HSO these days. Signage seems more than appropriate. It seems drownings have become an almost yearly occurrence.

Post a sign warning of the dangerous current. That is all that needs to be done.
