Walker declares state of emergency after city suffers wide flood damage last week

Report the damage, are you kidding me? It’s none of the city’s business! Who’s going to pay for the little old lady’s new furnace and water heater when she called SWL&P concerned because she had some water in her basement and they slapped the sticker of death on her mechanicals. Are we to believe that the city will be concerned when they get the notice from SWL&P or will they be more interested in what permits, if any, were pulled.
I cannot emphasize this enough — DO NOT EVER CALL ANY GOVERNMENT AGENCY OR ENTITIES REQUIRED TO REPORT TO SAID AGENCIES ABOUT YOUR PERSONAL PROPERTY OR DWELLING. This can severely kill your options and ultimately will cost you worst case scenario money. In the case of the old lady and/or emergencies call a relative, a friend, a neighbor, a handyman (which everyone should have knowledge of at least one), or a trusted contractor. Nice blown coverage by all the media by the way on all the rip off companies in town charging up to $100/hr to haul wet items to the curb under the guise and fear of bacteria contamination.

What’s so bad about this? It’s just a life time of experience and knowledge in dealing with various cities summed up in one sentence. Oh well, I guess some just have to learn the hard way.

I don’t blame Gov Walker at all for not a arriving in Superior until yesterday. That is perfectly reasonable.
I do however blame him for not declaring an emergency until yesterday. The National Guard could have been an invaluable tool for local officials to have at their disposal.
Kudos to Gov Goofy for getting one thing right. An immediate declaration.

Superior wanted to apply for state disaster money, except the the fund was empty. Raided by those who know better… Don’t worry residents of NE Wisc, since the Koch’s are so interested in the “well-being” of the state and they obvisouly have money to pour into the state (see Walker election and recall), I think the residents of NE Wisc should be expecting financial help from Walker and his buddies any day now.

i think you meant losers but explain to me exactly how liberals supposedly politicized this disaster??? i remember reading some conservative religious zealot on a flood comment board bombarding it with messages claiming God unleashed his wrath on us because of our pro gay mayor??? doesnt sound too liberal to me.

If I lived in Wisconsin, I’d be getting hundreds of petitions to recall the flood.

Here here! The floods must be stopped and more political action needs to be taken to stop Global Wetness.

Maybe Scott Walker will cancel the planned (and ridiculous) roundabout at the foot of the Bong Bridge and spend that million or so on fixing the storm damage in Superior.
It’s all about needs and wants when your $16 trillion in the hole. A roundabout is a WANT in government spending that we really can’t afford right now and what the city realy NEEDS is government money being spent on damaged infrastructure.

It is politicized because the liberals in Douglas, Bayfield and Ashland counties hate Walker so bad even if he gives the area every thing they need for aid they will still complain. Even though his polices are working the union folks hate him so bad they will try to politicize every thing he does. I wonder why they do not comment about the droves of teachers who are leaving the unions now that they found out the unions were taking them to the cleaners.

Sort of like you hate Obama no matter what he does. Is that correct?

I don’t think it is necessarily fair to make that form of assumption. Some of us cannot like Obama, based upon principle. Much like during the years of GWB, his policies have degraded the idea of Liberty to intolerable levels. As a person who has the utmost respect for or Military and that wants to join. He has also decided that it is acceptable to keep current conflicts and add other proxy battles along the way, all while gutting the Military from within. But, the Democrats still follow him because his image still resonates in your mind as the strong, articulate man who wooed you a few years ago. It is okay, I had the same impression under GWB, but then again, I was still a child during the majority of his presidency. It is time to grow up people and stop following banner point party lines, only then, will you set yourself free.

Not me, I wish he was white so I could dislike him more. He has trampled over our first admendment rights so much that I think it is now a crime to state a dislike for a person of different viewpoint.

Get over yourself Quagmire. I am a Libertarian and will not be voting for anyone in the Neoconservative movement anytime soon after how big government oriented they have become. It is true that my philosophy was born out of the Republican party, but they have failed me, so I was smart enough to adjust. Just as the Democrats have failed the majority of their base!

John I wasn’t talking directly to you, I was talking about the people who need to call other people names like that’s going to help make their point and get others to come around to their way of thinking.

I got a charge out of a couple being interview for TV. They stated that they didn’t buy flood insurance because they didn’t want to spend the money, but that they did blame Walker for failing to bail them out. Are they serious? They knew they were in a flood plain and didn’t buy insurance(gov’t subsidized insurance, no less) AND IT WAS WALKER’S FAULT? You just can’t make this stuff up!

Flood Plain? What flood plain? This was a 100-year event. There was no flood plain. Just a ridiculous amount of rain at one time.

The area surrounding Central park has been a designated flood plain for years. These folks knew it and were offered flood insurance but declined it. And because they lost most of what the owned it’s the Governor’s fault? Maybe flood insurance should be mandatory for those living in a flood plain the same way it’s mandatory for healthcare. You don’t see me blaming Obama when I get sick. Why should these unfortunate souls be any different?
