ND Secretary of State approves smoking measure language
June 22, 2012 at 10:52 am in Grand Forks Herald
North Dakota Secretary of State Al Jaeger has approved petition language for a ballot initiative that aims to ban smoking in all indoor workplaces, including bars. Continue Reading

It is absolutely ludicrous that the government should make it illegal for a business proprietor like a hotel to offer rooms available for smokers.
Having separate smoking areas in a hotel does not impinge on non-smokers rights, but banning them does impinge on smokers rights.
Also, what is up with the ban on electronic smoking devices that only simulate smoking and put no tars or carcinogens out in the air? Just because it resembles the act of smoking?
Get a grip here, let’s stop trying to legislate everyone’s morality.

I haven’t smoked in over thirty years and I couldn’t agree with you more….I too think this is just getting bat crap crazy. Hey! Us non smokers don’t have it in the vast majority of the places we go…(Well unless like myself who does go to some southern states where tobacco crops are still a big deal so they wont even stop smoking in resturants….I just don’t go to them). I can see Taxi’s, and some of the others…Bars…Maybe at least a smoking and non smoking section that is clear of any smoke…..
Hotel rooms that are already segregated to one particular block of rooms. That’s just going way too far. Like I said earlier…Unless the cleaning staff either comes in right a way as the people are leaving or are using their tounges I can’t see how this can even be a second hand smoke issue…This is a group who has literally taken thier inch and stretched it out to a mile……

This should be exciting for most North Dakotans. This should have been done state-wide 20 years ago rather than let individual cities handle this complicated subject. This is a big victory for employees stuck in a job with second-hand smoke. It will likely pass easily.

I don’t think iot will be an easy pass. I have the feeling that motels are going to raise hell and get some tourist boards to help them. I really think that’s the one weak spot that’s going to need changing if it’s going to get through

Big government? Ballot measures let the people vote and decide. Those who want it can vote for it, and those who don’t can vote against it. That’s a great thing about ballot measures in North Dakota
