North Dakota’s laws prohibiting animal cruelty are so weak that prosecutors seldom can take action, animal protection advocates have long complained.

Some people lack a heart and mistreat animals. They shouldn’t get away with it as easily as they do right now. The senseless slaughter of 14 cows by Hankinson…who does that?

“The initiative defines aggravated animal cruelty, punishable as a Class C felony, as “Any individual who maliciously and intentionally burns, poisons, crushes, suffocates, impales, drowns, blinds, skins, beats to death, drags to death, exsanguinates (blood letting), disembowels or dismembers any living dog, cat, or horse.””
Seems with this initiative you’d have to actually kill the animal before you can be prosecuted.

Are the dislikes due to the wording of the initiative or because I brought out the meaning of them?

The legislators will not pass the bill. I fear this is just a decoy to cause the initiated measure to fail because it will mislead people into thinking the government will pass a bill. I dont trust the group stating they will pass a law through the legislature. And while they can not repeal the initiated measure for 7 years they can add laws that will support it if they wish.

A new law is not needed.. There is already laws dealing with this content.. A law on top of the same law is not needed.. Another waste of taxpayers money..
