Park Point was mostly heavy industry at one time now Duluth benefit’s greatly from their smart refocus on tourism. I’m still baffled by Superior / Douglas County’s efforts to attract heavy industry while sitting on some of the best sandy lake shore in the world.

I’m still baffled by anyone who thinks that tourism can create middle class jobs. I think there is a direct correlation between the loss of industry in the Twin Ports and the level of poverty.

Perhaps Superior doesn’t want to rely on low-paying tourist jobs for its future.
Besides, the enviromafia have made Wisconsin Point untouchable….

Yep WI point could be a gold mine but it will never get any development .The city assured that when they put the dump out there (both times as there was one out on the point at one time) Plus as said the Environmentalist has their say plus the Old Indian Grave site is considered holy by the tribe even though the bodies have been removed and relocated. Plus now days some one wants to develop something they got to jump through so many hoops some do not consider it worth it. WI point is not even a good tourist attraction the ROAD is Horrible full of pot holes and any cars parked out there have been prowled in the past. There could be a lot more done out there to make it more tourist likeable but that takes money something Superior is not willing to do. The Mayor would rather spend the money on street arches.

Look for new office development coming soon. Duluth got some table scraps from Superior with the new Enbridge offices in Downtown Duluth; I don’t expect Superior to let this happen again.
Superior’s East End is also looking for big development; the three blocks between the business district and Hwy 2/53 will be happening soon.
I’ve also heard rumblings of another manufacturer scouting Superior for locations; I don’t think it is coincidence that Superior’s resurgence coincides with Walker’s tenure.

I heard from a reliable source the Super One store that was going into the space in East End is put on the back burner for now. Seems odd after spending all that money for the land and the cost of demolishing the hotel and houses there.
