OUR OPINION: Keep It Local ‘yes,’ Measure 2 ‘no’
June 7, 2012 at 5:30 pm in Grand Forks Herald
Keep It Local North Dakota numbers 90-plus respected organizations from every corner of North Dakota life. Keep It Local North Dakota loudly, strongly and unanimously opposes Measure 2.
That’s not the only reason to vote “no” on Measure 2. But it’s pretty close to reason enough. Continue Reading

Maybe after we get this sorted out, the people with the mighty pen could at least revise the % of home value and give us a small break.
If you were willing to offer up ZERO property tax, i’m thinking a 10-20 percent decrease across the state could be a nice thing.
We can not eliminate property taxes, but we really dont need to be paying as much as we are either.

Here in North Dakota, farmers do not pay property taxes on their farmsteads.
This is one example of tax exemptions. Most farmers I know are well off. Time to eliminate this exemption.

The reason Tom gives for voting “no” is that there are a lot of powerful organization who believe you should, that is a completely asinine reason to vote one way or the other on any issue.

How different you and I read the same sentence. I suppose some of these groups might be considered powerful, but, I would use adjectives like thoughtful, educated, committed, caring, important and focused. From my point of view, I’m thinking every one of these organizations put more thought into this than you or I possibly could have. That’s why Tom, you and I should VALUE their input. Good article, Tom!

Chamber of Criminals? You have no place in a capitalist society. Yet, it’s a free country. You are what’s wrong with this country. Just my opinion.

Free country? Corporations buy politicians which perverts Government. Citizens United was a TERRIBLE decision made by the Supreme Court.
I favor five times as much regulation and surveillance of Corporate America, and one-fifth the regulation and surveillance of the actual human citizens. Corporate documents such as tax returns should be open records. I’m therefore neither a Communist nor a Corporate Stooge.
The Chamber of Criminals can be counted upon to encourage politicians to pervert laws and justice to favor the business owner and executives, while leaving the workforce in the dark ages and/or with taxpayer-funded assistance programs–which, in essence, become another facet of Corporate Welfare. The “assistance programs” partially make up for the lack of appropriate wages.

Wow. Where I’m from, the Chamber members are doing the pancake breakfasts for the National Guard during floods. They do the annual Easter egg hunt and the Halloween Party. Many are my friends who work six days a week and get Thanksgiving off, only to be seen helping serve the community dinner on Thanksgiving. Which end of those events have you and your children experienced? It’s like you and I are on different planets.

The big problem with a no vote is the risk that legislators will misinterpret it as saying citizens like the property tax. This will grind needed reform to a halt, and will likely result in even higher mil rates and valuations.

If that’s the big problem with a no vote, it’s minor compared to the big problems a yes vote would cause. I’m pretty sure the legislature is hearing the people, loud and clear. Vote No on this one and then talk to your legislators. Don’t say they haven’t been listening because not one of you has really tried (I’ll bet).

The problems of property tax do not go away with a NOthing vote. Our home value not our money is used to determine our children’s education, our funding of local services, property tax cannot grow our communities, proof of this is out west, homes which pay property tax cannot be built fast enough to give us the infrastructure needed for growth. Property tax does not respond fast enough to the market and adversely responds to the market be inflating home values for no other reason than the homes exist. A home losing half of its square footage to flooding should NOT receive a $16,000 increase but it is happening in the west see it at bbuz.biz videos

The “powerful” government organizations (of crooks) say to Vote ‘NO’. First,, the “system” is broken. It’s time to toss it out. Second, the “Local Control” argument is an absolute LIE! The County Commissions abdicated their so-called “Local Control” to the sate years ago. Third, the power has come from out-of-state money, provided by the Liberals (Read that Communists. Yes, Liberals hav gon so far left that they may be legitimately be referred to as Communists.). The Liberals have started the name, “Keep It Local”, funded the “powerful government (of crooks) organizations” and perpetuated/promulgated the lie!

Bob Lewis (if he is even a real person) is the face of Measure #2. If you don’t vote no on Measure #2, you are equal to Bob Lewis (if he is even a real person). Vote NO on Measure #2 and, frankly, I’m pretty sure people like Bob Lewis don’t even exist. His posts are a joke, trying to bait normal Republicans, like me.

This opinion piece is really the reason why you should vote ‘yes’ on the measure. Everyone of the organizations listed has a direct interest in maintaining a large revenue stream into state government so they have a fat wad of cash to slice up whenever they need subsidies. Doesn’t anyone find it odd when groups such as unions and business organizations can all of a sudden jump in bed with each other under the guise of “doing what is prudent” for the state? They outspent the opposition 30 to 1. This should really get you thinking about who is scamming whom here. Vote ‘Yes’ and give yourselves the same subsidies that many powerful business organizations get for themselves on a regular basis.
