Walker survives recall election in Wisconsin
June 5, 2012 at 7:00 pm in West Central Tribune
MADISON, Wis. (AP) Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker beat back a recall challenge Tuesday, winning both the right to finish his term and a voter endorsement of his strategy to curb state spending, which included the explosive measure that eliminated union rights for most public workers. Continue Reading

On National network TV(ABC and CBS) this morning at the eight o’clock news hour , not one word from the presz b o’s controlled media about the huge win (50% greater point spread from election before ) of the GOP Gov. Walker winning. All the Presidents news anchors could talk about is this FOOD business at Disney, then next was Miss. U.S.A., after then it was the NEW news about Perfume. That is when I shut the TV off and picked up the STRIB. , could see a few words about the WIN, next to much more ink , about the Disney Food deal. For close to a year the media was full of stories day in day out of Mr. Barrett (Mayor of Milwaukee) and how great the Wis. Democrats were doing in this ‘recall’ business and how wonderful it all was. In fact the Democrats were so sure of the WIN, they didn’t want presz b o (HE was only a few miles from Wis. last week) near the State to give Mr. Barrett a jump start. Just a guess on my part, but I would say the local Party Members knew deep down, that if the President did show up, it might of hurt Barrett even more than the end results did show. I may even add, that Wis. did have voter I.D. Could that be the reason Democrat Barrett lost by a 50% greater difference in the point spread. My only real comment is, Sad for Americans that the Administration in Wash D.C. (Presz b o even ordered HIS U.S. Justice Dept. to be in attendance to watch the VOTERS) didn’t allow their Media to give us all the information about the end results,

Amazingly Carl, it was all over the local channels, starting at 4:30 AM, and on the national channels at 7:00 AM. . Did you watch long enough for it to recycle, or maybe they covered it long enough the first time.

Walker took a 3 billion dollar deficit and turned it into a surplus. The tax payers scored a major victory in Wisconsin. As Minnesota government workers gouge tax payers, this should be a wake-up call. Very few realize that police and fire get 3% of salary for each year they work. A thirty year police seargent in Minneapolis will get $80,000/year in retirement for life, not to mention they can retire at 55 years old. Is it fair that government workers have such generous perks while we the tax payers struggle tomake ends meet??

First of all being a cop in Minneapolis for 30 years is no walk in the park–I wouldn’t want that job no matter what the salary, benefits or retirement. I also think the retirement age has as much to do with public safety as anything. Also, I think that police are required to contribute 9.6% of their salary to their retirement from the day they start.
While I realize that a pension is a great benefit, I also question how much money the average person would have for their retirement if they invested 9.6% of their salary from the time they started working until they retire.
I am a public employee and my husband is not. I know we’ve contributed alot more into my retirement than his, just because we’ve been forced to do it…currently that rate is 6.25% for PERA. I am not eligible for full PERA benefits until I’m 66 and I would take close to a 50% cut in benefits if I retired at 62.
I am certainly not complaining…I’m thankful we’ll have my PERA. I’m only trying to put a few facts out there that are often left out of discussions on public employee retirement plans. I’m glad I’m forced to save for my retirement because I probably would not have done it myself. I’m thankful I’ll have a retirement income from both PERA & SS since we haven’t saved much for my husband’s. I just want to make the point that public employees contribute to their own retirment. I also have heard people make comments about the age public employees can retire without checking their facts–the Rule of 90 has not been around for new employees for many years. I started my job in the summer of 1992 and I do not fall under Rule of 90. There are still people out there retiring under Rule of 90 but that will come to an end before too long.

While not all government workers make that much in pension, I don’t find it out of place for firefighters and police to get that. Aside from high-rise construction workers and demolition people, I can’t think of two professions where you face death from doing your job on a day-to-day basis. And yes, I’m sure there are those out there who will be HAPPY to point out professions I missed, but then you would be missing the point. After 30 years as a cop or firefighter, you are most likely physically unable to do the job effectively, and since you have been paying in 10% of every paycheck into a retirement fund you should be able to retire. Do some research on PERA. There have been many, many changes over the years, and those high dollar payouts will soon be a thing of the past.

How many know that police are exempt from paying into the SS trust fund as they work as police officiers? Many work after retirement from their police departments and pay into SS and hence are eligible to collect SS benefits eventhough their first 30 years of employment they contributed 0 to the fund. I do not think this is fair! If you view the police and fire PERA retirement fund web site, they have no penalty for retiring at age 55. I wiah these generous retirement benefits were published in local papers so the tax payers were informed about these atrocities of economic equity!!!

Then that also means the city or county doesn’t have to pay the employer amount into SS (isn’t that a good thing?). As has been stated above, the reason a cop can retire at full retirement at 55 probably has alot to do with the physical & mental demands of the job.
I love how people seem to want less government and then want to pass all kinds of laws or make rules telling other people what they can and cannot do–really, a law to outlaw moonlighting? So if a 23 year old county child protection worker (PERA), who has school loans, is moonlighting as a bartender on the weekends to pay off his/her loans, you want to pass a law they can’t do that coz it might someday increase their SS retirement income?

jimmy you’re batting 100%(1000). I can prove it. According to presz b o’s fact-finding ability , there are 57 States in the U.S.A. , this HE has told us many times. In those 57 states presz b o tell us there are over 343,894,429 Americans. Out of those numbers over two hundred million are union members. If each one of them from those 57 States that presz b o has preached to us in HIS sermons Sent One Dollar ($1.00) to the Wis. Democrats to give to Democrat Barrett to win the election , it would of shown that it was a terrible waste($200,000,000.00) of the Parties money trying to buy a election that should never of been held. Those millions and millions of dollars would of fed the poor, made the sick well, housed the ones that needed it, funded schools, nursing homes etc.. Even presz b o knew it was a shame. I don’t think that was the reason HE didn’t go Wis.(HE was only couple of miles away week ago) to help Mr.Barrett, presz b o with HIS long list of Failures didn’t want to add another one so close to Nov Election.

Hey Jimmy, you talk about Walker balancing the budget on working peoples backs. What you really mean is government workers backs! There are alot more “working people” who aren’t gov’t workers, and I guarantee most of them “work” harder than most gov’t workers. I’ve been on both sides of the equation, and I can tell you that workers in private industries do alot more hard work, and longer hours than do public employees!

We sure could use a Gov like Walker! Someone who is willing to do what is right for the state and the taxpayers would be a nice change for MN.
In fact other people have posted on this site that it would be nice to have politicians who aren’t afraid to stand up and do what needs to be done and not worry about re-election.
Weren’t you one of those guys bac? Or is just if they agree with you bac?

Governor Scott Walker won 53.1% to 46.3%, more then the 52.3 he received in 2010.
38% of union members voted for Governor Scott Walker.
The majority of people 30 and older voted for Governor Scott Walker.
The majority of independents voted for Governor Scott Walker.
70% of the people felt that the use of recall was inappropriate and should only be used for official misconduct or never.
Governor Scott Walker did a heck of a lot more then just survive kids, he made a stand for the taxpayers and defeated the socialist forces in WI.

I’ll say one thing, it was pure stupidity of the unions to force this mid-election-cycle. I guess it was their money being blown on the recall fiasco, so it’s no skin off of my nose.

WRONG you are R,. O. Do not blame the UNIONS, The Root call of the re-call was the Democrat Party in Wis, the DNC, The U.S. Senate Majority Leader Democrat Harry R. and last but not least, presz b o’s lack of ability and Management skills. Sure HE was QUIET(HE was within 20 Miles of helping Mr Barrett in a Big way but refused to do so) as a mouse, but it was HIS CALL. HE had hoped that HE had a winner in Mr. Barrett to help HIM dig his way out of terrible poll ratings that are the lowest ever .
