No place to play for two Central Valley football players
June 2, 2012 at 7:11 pm in Grand Forks Herald
The high school football careers of Central Valley’s Ethan Proznik and Dusty Schildberger are in need of a 2-minute drill.
The seniors-to-be from Buxton, N.D., might even need a Hail Mary. Continue Reading

I understand the concern about setting a bad precendent. However, sometimes there are those rare instances where the right thing to do is simply to do the right thing. Those boys should be able to play.

Co-op agreements take time and what fault is it of these two student athletes that were caught up in this situation? This is the only sport in North Dakota that has a 2 year stipulation. The board should be able to see that this is extenuating circumstance and hopefully can vote/rule on what is best for the student athlete. I would like the NDSHAA voting board to state “What is your purpose as an organization? To provide opportunities for students to participate in activities, or to enforce rules regardless of circumstances?”. Think back to your senior years and put yourself in their situation. You can’t play your favorite sport because of a rule. Not because of an injury or not making the team, but because of a rule that is out-dated and you have NO control over. These 2-boys simply want to put on their pads and helmet, run out on the grid iron and play football.
The board needs to reconsider its decision and to show compassion and rule as to what is the RIGHT thing to do – not according to an old outdated rule in a rule book. Allow these boys the opportunities to feel the sod under their cleats as they enter the game. To look up over the crowd and see the glimmering lights of a Friday Night with anticipation of a win. Hear the chanting for your team on the field and for every great play that is made. It should not end by sitting on the spectator bleachers watching the game and wondering what if. Or 10 years from now still thinking about this Boards ruling of how their High School Football careers should not have ended. There is enough what-ifs once you are older. Not participating in Varsity Football through no fault of their own should not be one of them.

Out of all the schools that were asked in their conference, one school said no to allowing them to play at Hillsboro. Shame on you Thompson for not seeing the desparity in this, and your AD is actually a CV alum.

These young gentleman deserve to play. They shouldn’t be punished by an old rule that should probably be looked at being revised. Good Luck boys!

just give the school a flippin waiver.
We are talking about 2 kids, not 10-20.
Their presence on the field in 9 mans comp will not affect anything, yet moving to 11 man and the team will be smoked in every game.
if it were 10 or more kids, then i could understand the problem.
GIVE THEM A WAIVER!!!
I never played a single down of football after HS but if you had stolen my Senior year i would have been devastated.
Do the right thing.

Well stated Capt Amerika. And this is for one year until it is brought up again in the regular meeting next year. Let the Board then discuss what needs to be done with the Co-op at that time. Also what is interesting is the article in the Herald this weekend on the schools out west already talking about the influx of kids that will be there. What happens when another school in Sept gets enough kids in the 9-12 grade that will dicatate a move to 11 man numbers?
