BISMARCK (AP) Two weeks before North Dakotans will vote on whether to abolish their property taxes, lawmakers debated a proposal Tuesday offering homeowners a hefty exemption that would save them hundreds of dollars on their annual tax bills. Continue Reading

“For homeowners, the savings could be substantial. For example, the property tax bill of a home in Bismarck valued at $150,000 would be cut in half, from $2,132 annually to $1,066, with a $75,000 exemption. The same homeowner is now paying about 20 percent less in property taxes because of the Legislature’s existing property tax reduction program.” I did not receive a 20 percent decrease and it is because their is no cap on what the mill levies go up, the entities seemed to use the supposedly property tax relief as a permission to just raise more taxes, the entities got more money and the homeowner got stuck with increased values and increased mills thus increased taxes which did not give all the 20 percent relief which with the amount spent of $500 million should have been closer to a 30% discount. Measure 2 eliminates property tax insuring we get REAL property tax relief. Vote YesM2.com
