Into each life, a little rain must fall. But does it have to always happen during Rib Fest time?
That’s what Coni McKay, director of the Alexandria Lakes Area Chamber of Commerce was thinking when for the second straight year, a deluge of rain fell during the Rib Fest portion of Awake the Lakes on Saturday. Continue Reading

The area bounded by Second Avenue and Lake Agnes where these events takes place is just great, but what can be done about the smell that wafts over that area from time to time? My kids and I rode our bikes down there from the Central Lakes Trail on Monday. I thought we would get a soda somewhere and hang around a little while, but the foul smell drove us out of there immediately. It was terrible.

Rib Fest? No ribs when we went down there. Have the competition as one separate event. None of those ribs are for sale. Have ribs available for the public all afternoon and into the night provided/sponsored by the city similar to how the fire dept handles it’s chicken feed. This would take care of the problem of running out of ribs by 5PM.

I’ve been hearing that same thing every year. Even the guys on the local AM station talk about how ‘you’ve just got to get there early’ for this.
Why? If this is an ongoing problem, shouldn’t they realize by now that they need to plan for more? If you’re going to promote something like this, there should be enough food on hand to last until at least seven or so.
I’ve been going to Clotho’s ice cream social for several years, and they’ve NEVER run out of food. And they’re serving from 11 am on. And if you’ve ever been there, you know they get hundreds of people.
Lame, Alex, lame.
