Bob Dylan made his hometowns of Duluth and Hibbing proud Tuesday as he received the nation’s highest civilian honor alongside the likes of astronaut John Glenn and novelist Toni Morrison. Continue Reading

Maybe the Dylan worshipers here in Duluth should invite Dylan here for another award. They could hang one of his sewer covers around his neck ala Flavor Flav. A used sewer cover around the neck of Dylan…nothing could be better for him.

I bet Bob would love that! You know how much he loves visiting the Zenith City.

And yet good ol’ Bobby gives this area a big double middle to everyone by not wanting to perform here.

He did an interview where the reporter asked him what he thought about Duluth. Bob’s response: “Duluth, Georgia?”

Looks like lil Bobby Zimmerman accomplished something that few people in this world have or ever will.
Pretty hard to believe a lil Jewish boy from northern MN could have such a lasting impact on the world of music.
Truly a “small town boy makes good story”…living the American dream.
“Bob Dylan” didn’t just happen. He was was created solely by talent and hard work. Paying your dues as the musicians seem to call it.
I’m not really a Dylan fan as such. I like a lot of his work but, mostly when someone else sings it.
I do believe in giving credit where credit is do though and….Dylan definitely deserves a lot of credit for what he’s accomplished in his life.
I think the fact he’s highly respected by so many others in his profession is a true measure of the man.
Pretty interesting article here:

There’s also an interview on “The Attic” blog here that I thought was pretty good.

Modern Times in 2006 was the number 1 album in the US and #3 in the UK. So yeah, nobody is interested in his music anymore, ha.

Other artists who had “number 1″ albums in 2006 include Jay-Z, Diddy, Danity Kane, Rick Ross, Godsmack, Rascal Flats, and another, possibly more famous Minnesota Musician, Prince.

I think a sewer cover is a totally appropriate form of recognition for him. It’s got to make him feel close to home.

Does Karen Diver have enough pull to get a Bob Dylan slot machine put in the casino downtown?

Together through life in 2009 also peaked at #1 in the US and #5 in the UK in 2009.
Mr Zimmerman also played in Duluth twice in the late 90′s, playing to crowds that were less than half of his next smaller venue on the tour.
But I guess nothing will make will make the crabby Duluthians happy, short of Dylan stating that Duluth is a Utopia….while these same folks complain every day.
I hope the irony of such a position isn’t lost by the reader.

It’s not so much about Dylan. What’s annoying is this non-stop insistence by some that the city simply must officially recognize him in every conceivable way and at every opportunity. He lived in Duluth until he was six. He saw a concert here once when he was a teenager. And there you go. There’s his connection to Duluth. Does the city not have any other natives, maybe even some who grew up (all the way up) in Duluth, who’ve gone on to contribute a bit more than some crappy music and who might be a bit more worthy of recognition by the city?

Sure, Bob was a talented musician – but the Medal of Honor? Honor for what? Did he improve our country or it’s peoples’ way of life? I guess the Medal of Honor isn’t as prestigious as I always thought it was. Just like I found out when Obama got the Nobel Peace Prize after being President for a matter of weeks , BEFORE he even did anything!
