The new leader of North Dakota’s University System wants to become the voice of higher education in the state. Hamid “Ham” Shirvani, who officially begins July 1, attended the State Board of Higher Education’s two-day retreat this week, where leaders discussed how they want to move forward as they transition to a new chancellor. ““I think it’s important to say that the system is not broken. It doesn’t need fixing,” he said.”
De facto, there is no system. Each campus has operated as an independent entity for decades. This goes back to the time when each SBHE member was viewed as representing an institution. More recently, it has been particularly obvious, as Chapman, who “liked competition,” got the Board to get UND out of Fargo, while putting up NDSU billboards in Grand Forks.

What happens in higher ed is, when you want to get rid of an incompetent person, you write them a stellar letter of recommendation, and let the next place suffer.

The reviews I read don’t paint a very good picture of him.
“volatile relations with the faculty leadership”
“Never has there been a more divisive, negative figure in the CSUS system as Shirvani.”
“Given his track record, it’s a huge surprise North Dakota hired him.”
“This is truly addition by subtraction for CSU.”
“Thank you North Dakota and good luck to you. You’re going to need it.”
“I have no doubt that the entire staff and faculty at CSU are throwing a party right now.”
“Congratulations CSU employees…your prayers have been answered.”
“I’m sorry North Dakota. I hope you didn’t sign him to a long term contract.”
“As for the employees at CSU…I’ve never seen a more joyful bunch than I did this morning after he announced he was leaving.”
Apparently this guy has an ego problem. The CSU campus is located in Turlock. He called it Turdlock. lol
Oh well, thankfully he’s 61 and won’t hang around too long. I think they should have hired the guy from Nebraska. Just my opinion.

Another overpaid doofus “takes control” of an out-of-control, dysfunctional management team.
MAKE ARRESTS IN THE WEST END.
The NDUS has been contacted by me about half-a-dozen times; I have yet to hear back from them. Nothing. Nada. Zip. Zilch.
I had to contact Do-Nothing Dalrymple about three times before some woman called me and told me to contact the NDSU instead. (Yes, she told me several times to contact ndSU. She changed her story to ndUS eventually–after I questioned her about it.) D-N Dalrymple wasn’t going to intercede. Apparently this isn’t a big enough deal for D-N Dalrymple to bother with.
Do-Nothing Dalrymple will NOT be getting my vote–ever.
