Column – College students eat lots of Ramen noodles

I call them the “Ramen Shoppers.” They never fail to fill me with sympathy and sadness. You can see them in the grocery stores of all college towns. They are typically between the ages of 19 and 24. Pushing their grocery carts down the aisles, they take time intently pondering the price of this or that item. Sometimes they linger in front of some shelf items with dreamy, hungry looks on their faces. Continue Reading

Are we to conclude this financial shortfall affects mostly college students? How about the millions of Americans who have been forced into the Food Stamp program because of such a poor economic ‘recovery’? How about the 88% of Americans who are saying their food bills have increased precipitously in the past year because of inflation?
More importantly, Mr. Dalman, what are YOU proposing as a solution? Tax the so-called ‘rich’ even more? Give away more to the needy and ‘wanty’ by borrowing even more from China? More government handouts and control of the masses?
Hot debate. What do you think?

I tried those Ramen things once, and that was the last time.
What ever happened to Banquet Cookin’ Bags, cheap mac and cheese, and all the stuff you could make on a hotplate?

What’s a hot plate? Just kidding, I know what one is, but do they even make them anymore?

LOL!
Good question, BSU! Can’t really say as I know the answer.
But I do miss those ‘Cookin’ bags’. Salisbury steak, chicken ala king, turkey, and beef in gravy. All you needed besides the hotplate and a pot was a toaster, and you had a pretty decent meal. And the flavor was so much better than this frozen microwave crap nowadays.
My main complaint with the Ramen stuff is that it’s just cheap noodles with the kind of broth we used to get outta the gas station coffee machines over it.

Question of the day: Should there be a level playing field for ALL in America? If so, why? If not, why not?

Ramen Noodles are important. But, please, do not forget to mention Totino’s Pizza. Yes, this fine pizza has been and continues to be a staple for those on a college budget!
