Airport boardings in tailspin
May 17, 2012 at 2:02 am in The Jamestown Sun
The Jamestown Regional Airport Authority will send up to three people to Washington, D.C., to meet with officials June 6 in hopes of reversing a sudden decline in airplane boardings in Jamestown. Continue Reading

wow, how quickly progress can be undone. that is an incredible drop in boardings, 1/4th what they were two months ago. all that due to pricing?

If people would look at this with logic and reason instead of emotion, they’d realize that Jamestown doesn’t really need commercial air service. Both Fargo and Bismarck are within 90 minutes and offer many more options.
Hot debate. What do you think?

JR, you are so right. What a complete waste of tax money to keep subsidizing this losing proposition. I think everyone realizes it’s easier to drive a few miles and fly on real planes.

I found it quite pleasant to have air service access in town. I am willing to pay a little bit more, as long as it is convenient.

Why would anyone want to pay MORE for POORER service? The fact that boardings are in a tailspin shows that most people feel the same way. So much for that new terminal.

I actually find that the lines are shorter in town, the service is better, and that I don’t have to drive to Fargo or Bismarck, which alone saves the difference in the fare – not to mention no parking fees. If you had read the article, terrynelson, you would understand why people are not flying from here anymore.

As I understand the article the lower boardings are because of the high fares. I flew out of the Jamestown Airport twice. I found the service horrible and the people rude. It’s definetly Bismarck or Fargo for me.

David, I read the article and it basically said that service is poorer and prices are higher. Better just to cruise to Fargo and get on a real plane.

I know this off the subject but the prices in the new grocery store are higher than the other stores also.

I noticed that also. It just costs more to live in a smaller town. Airfare is no different. Most everything in Jamestown is higher than Bismarck, Fargo, Grand Forks, etc.

Why are they higher then Hugo’s or Wal-Mart, they are in the same town? I don’t buy that theory Jamestown Resident. Actually I prefer to buy my groceries in Bismarck it is well worth the gas money with the savings on other things and the better selection.

Well you know if they were cheaper Hugo’s would have the city condemn the place and take it away from them.

Coborns has never really been known as a low priced store, at least not in the Mpls suburbs. Cashwise, yes, but Coborns, no. Kind of strange, since they are owned by the same company.

Depends on the competition.
The one in Long Prairie prices things higher than the one in Sauk Center.

Some friends and I fly out of Jamestown quite often (once a month for each of us). The big dip in March and April were a little bit of increased prices (which were about even when you add mileage to and from Fargo, meal, & parking for a week) and inconvenient booking separate flights. In addition a couple of the times we flew we had big delays (> 1hr) for the planes getting here from Williston. Many people were having to rebook their connecting flight because of the delay. I have a flight coming up in June and I see we are going back to the Beachcraft vs. the EmbryAir. I want to support the local airport and it is more convenient, but it is not smooth at all. My last flight back into Jamestown a few weeks ago I was the only passenger. Very hard not to just FLY FAR.
