Phil Krinkie, St. Paul column: How are Twins’ stadium promises working out?

Just three years later at the Twins stadium, attendance is dropping, and the team have the worst record in baseball. Remember, the owners had told the Legislature that the team needed a new stadium in order to stay competitive. Continue Reading

On the flip side the GOP offers huge tax breaks for all wealthy MN people and asks for more tax relief for business owners and cabin owners (blowing a big hole in a budget that is allready in the red). In addition there are all kinds of corporate subsidies given out to business and millionaire farmers.
The door swings both ways Mr. Kranky. It seems like your right hand dosen’t know what your left hand is doing. Your party is dipping into everyones pockets every day to subsidize your wealthy MN friends. The sports teams are an asset to MN and the region and I’m glad they are staying in MN. I think alot of other folks think that too. So did some of the leading business owners in the Twin Cities. The right decision was made for a better future for MN.

“Two-thirds of the taxpayer’s subsidy was in essence pocketed by the Twins’ owner”. This is such a misleading statement to support his own no tax god beliefs. Is he than saying the stadium only cost 1/3 of the amount need to build? Do we only have 1/3 of a stadium now. How bout all the business owners ,landlords and their employees whose value has also escalated? What percentage did they take? How much of the subsidy can we say went straight to you by way of donations by outraged people that donate to your group because of this. We still have a stadium and we held on to our pride. You squeeze your wallet as tight as you can and enjoy your life. But you will have a lot less to show for it in so many ways.
