The basic problem is that there really is no simple answer. I think it’s strange the doctor can give you a hundred things that cause weight gain but really nothing that is that effective at producing weight loss.
So mostly we are resorting to treating fat people rudely like modern lepers and the shame is then supposed to produce results.
Much harder to engineer cities to promote walking for instance.
Health clubs mostly work for people in shape already. Very few seriously overweight people have enough fortitude to withstand the looks and the fact that even exercise equipment is not made for people who really need exercise.
No simple answers but what we are doing isn’t working.
