The Mariner softball team’s record currently sits at 11-3. After they suffered their first loss of the season to Two Harbors, they went on to defeat Duluth Marshall 21-14. Marina Carter was the winning pitcher in the game. Shay Viola went 4 for 6 with 3 RBIs, Taylor Guzzo was 3 for 6, Carter was 3 for 4 and Katie Smedstad was 4 for 6. The Mariners also beat Proctor 10-8 in the continuation of a game that was suspended after four innings with the score tied at 7. Then on Saturday they traveled to Pine City to play in the Dragon’s invitational tournament. There they lost 9-6 to Robbinsdale Cooper, a AAA team, and 5-3 to Hinckley-Finlayson for their first loss of the season to a Class A opponent. They rebounded and finished up the tourney with a 17-15 victory over host Pine City. The Mariners are now 9-1 versus Class A teams.
