sid – you are spot on. If you can’t find a job you don’t stay in the community, unless you want to work three server jobs or just milk the system. Either way that does not attract the best and brightest to the community. Mr. Ross can blather about sense of community all he wants, until he sees that companies with good paying jobs, good benefits and career advancement competing against other local companies for the same talent is only thing that will attract and retain the best and brightest to our community, we keep getting more warm fuzzy articles about sense of community being what is most important… (and inhale from the run on sentence) To summarize for Mr Ross’ benefit, JOBS JOBS JOBS are the main reason the best and brightest will come and stay and create your “emotional bond”.

Duluth’s quality of place is outstanding. Speaks for itself.
Quality of life is subjective. Fresh air, clean water = yes. Prof opportunities = limited. Cultural offerrings = relatively good. Social / Community / Diversity = poor. Prof opportunities = very limited. Entertainment / Leisure = getting better. Vibe and Identity = in the making. Attitude = big improve ments made.
Duluth needs to grow and diversify its economy. Build on what’s already in place as the aerospace industry cluster is doing.
Recognize and stimulate the creative industries, rescue the ailing publishing sector before it disappears, turn research into inventions at NRRI and EPA, try to attract corporate divisions of Wells Fargo or US Bank, go after more insurance businesses to complement the work being done at United Healthcare.
Support Maurices, Essentia and St Lukes to expand in Dlth.
Do progressive urban planning.
