May 4, 2012 at 7:00 pm in Duluth News Tribune
Drivers heading to and from the Twin Cities should allow some extra time for their travels starting next week as lane closures begin on Interstate 35 in Carlton and Pine counties.

I think we all may as well accept that I35 is a two lane road from June to August. Every year from now on.
Hot debate. What do you think?

Typical. Complaining about the construction and if there were no construction you and others would be complaining about the condition of the road.

I’m complaining about the 45 minute backups. Bitching about bitching is what I call meta-bitching.

If we were genuinely interested in living within our means, it would be a 2-lane road all the time like Hwy 2. Ya know, “controlling big-government spending?” But that would hurt the oil companies, and people might start demanding real public transport… so, yeah #*@k that.

The freeway system was well within our means when it was built 50 years ago. The fact that now we can barely keep them from falling apart shows how shamefully we have squandered our patrimony.

What I never understood is why road repair is done the way it is. You’ll see dozens of pieces of expensive, idle equipment strewed along miles of unfinished roadway. Would seem that gathering all the equipment and focusing it on a short stretch, then moving on to the next stretch would result in less disruption.

I’m coming to Duluth for the weekend. I will be using that stretch of road on Saturday around eleven. I have never driven in Duluth before so you may want to avoid driving in that area during that period of time. I’m sorry to inconvenience the residents of the Duluth area but my mom is making me go. I couldn’t get out of it. She nags like no other.
