Those in the article seem very happy the church is moving, but we are sad to see the church of our ancestors be moved. Often we have visited the church wishing we could get inside or even have relatives marry here. Suddenly, we hear the church is for sale because it is “doomed” and then suddenly it is sold. Certainly, we would have invested much money into the up-keep and repairs for this church if only we had known there was a need. Many in our family would have assisted with the maintenance and have the skills, but there was never any indication the church needed help. “Doomed” seems like a rather dramatic word for a church that is cared for by quite a few of us, even if it is from afar. The county historic society and so many in the area interested in our culture would have certainly been involved if a call for assistance was made. We are hurt by the comment that they wish they had “more churches to sell” —we wish there were more churches too, that way Frank Lake Church wouldn’t have to go away from its home. Hopefully the new owners will take good care of our church. We will not be at the farewell celebration as it is just too painful under the circumstances.
