Golf club to remain open for 2012

The Hudson Golf Club will remain open through the 2012 season, according to its owner. But the prospects for its operation after that don’t look good, unless there’s a significant increase in business this summer. Continue Reading

How about the they donate the course to the city and make it a municipal course. It would be one heck of a tax write off and it would ensure Hudson always had a golf course. Developing it and putting in more houses would just mean we would have to build more schools and that would just increase our taxes again..
Hot debate. What do you think?

Then we would be picking up the expenses of this course since it has ran at a loss for 15 years.

It could easily break even if it was donated to the city. Fees would cover the course maintenance and the clubhouse could be sold. It would just be a basic municipal golf course without all the bells and whistles. Young people might start golfing again.

Green fees didn’t cover the maintenance costs when it was run as a non-profit. How could they possibly cover the costs with city-provided union labor doing the work? Your suggestion is the most ridiculous thing I’ve heard today – but the day is young.

I said it should be donated. Hell they were going to give the city some free land before. Why not give the golf course to the city?

They would have recovered the loss on the “free” land by selling lots for housing. You really don’t know much about how business works, do you?

Back to plan A. Lose money for 8 years, then sell it off to a developer and add 100 new homes and 5 more coffee shops…

Bigfoot, you don’t seem to understand business. They sunk a boatload of money into the golf course, fancy clubhouse and buildings. They could never make money with those hanging over their head. Getting back to basics, green fees would easily cover maintenance costs on the donated golf course. Do you know what overhead is?
The way the housing sector is, good luck with a new housing development. There are loads of bankrupt developers in Hudson as it is and scores of foreclosed homes.
Donate the course to the city and sell the clubhouse. Take the write off and move on. We could easily break even on the maintenance.
