   I do believe that there is another solution. I believe that creating a language proficiency center would cut down on class sizes. We could construct this building instead of the situation of currently adding on to the other schools. When students move into the community, I believe that they can be tested and if they are not proficient in the English language they would be able to attend this school until they are. At the time that they reach grade level proficiency they would be integrated into the regular classrooms. This by no means is the student’s fault, but sometimes coming from another country, and the parents speaking another language in the home they need focused attention.
   This attention as seen on the math and reading testing scores for Worthington shows that the added focus needs to be on addressing all the students, and not on English proficiency.
   I would say if we created this type of structure that it may cut down the classroom numbers dramatically.
   A lot of people still send their children to the school district because of all the “extra” classes. Unfortunately, if extra classes are cut as Mr. Karelis states, we may also have a reduction in the number of students, simply for the reason that the education would not be as strong it has previously been. It would be a real shame to lose these families.

  This still wouldn’t address the need for more space at the highschool level. If you used your idea, you would still have overcrowding by middle school. Regardless of English speaking skills, more kids are being raised in Worthington. More space for all, not just those lacking English skills, are needed.
