Super fan: Pass stadium or become ‘third Dakota’
April 30, 2012 at 6:39 pm in Grand Forks Herald
Larry Spooner loves Minnesota Vikings football so much that he has taken more than 40 days vacation over the years to ask legislators to approve a new stadium.
But as he parked his van in front of the Minnesota Capitol on Monday, where it will return later this week as lawmakers consider a stadium, he said his support of building a new stadium goes well beyond love of the game and tailgating. He also wants to help his state. Continue Reading

I would like to apologize to North Dakota and South Dakota on behalf of Minnesota. Let’s not make this a ‘capital’ offense.

N & S Dakota have nothing to do with your empty Super Bowl display case. A new stadium isn’t going to help a team win the game that matters. Maybe the team should start to compete with their neighbors to the east instead of the the legislature complaining about their neighbors to the west who have nothing to do with this issue.

Compete against a team where the fans don’t mind waiting half a century to get season tickets and are willing to pay massive amounts of money for a piece of paper that says they are a minority owner in the team? Those Minnesota fair weather fans with the Minnesota Sports Curse pick on the Dakota’s, because they think it’s an easy target. They can just wait till someone mentions college football and hockey to them, then they will have to pick on some new states to say they don’t want to suck like.

Does that mean the Gophers will be the University of East Dakota?

This superfan is a doing more damage to the stadium effort than helping it. His hate of anyone not from Minnesota is very ill advised. It’s obvious he is clueless about the thousands of fans from North and South Dakota who attend Vikings games and other Minnesota sports teams. There are Vikings season tickets holders from Dickinson, Williston and the town that he dissed, Minot. Not counting the fans who watch every game.

I’ve always been told North Dakota could never have a NFL team because Minnesota would cry until they got one.

Ziggy has the rights by the stadium agreement to bring in major league soccer after 5 yrs. Futbol is the future & the way to put Mn. on the world map since the rest of the world only understands FUTBOL & not football.

Yet being the key word here….we still have plenty of time. I could see it happening in Oakland. That place is a near riot after their teams loses a home game.
And I don’t want to be like the rest of the world spearman. Did we switch to the metric system? No we did not.

Oh, yeah. The dreaded metric system we were going to be changing over to all through my school years. Sure did a lot of good to learn all the conversion tables. The only place in the whole country that ever got close was an experimental stretch of highway between Tuscon, AZ and Nogales.
Whatever, I kinda like the name, “East Dakota”. Has a nice ring to it and is easier to spell than Minnysoda.

Sort of…but I like Minnekota. We only have to change one letter and I can still wear all my M stuff. People will call us ED if we go your way. Do you want to be called ED bac? I can hear people teasing me right now. They will put the word special in front of it. I bet you $5 they do.
