Electronics giant, Best Buy, considers sales refocus
April 28, 2012 at 2:15 am in Grand Forks Herald
Best Buy hates being called “Amazon’s showroom.” Yet oddly, that insult may reveal a path forward for the struggling electronics giant. Some analysts think Best Buy’s long-term future might rely on turning its business model upside-down. Instead of specializing in selling electronics gear, it could gradually refocus its consumer-electronics business on everything but: instruction, service, support, connections, returns, pickup all tricky things to do online. First they have to focus on customer service.. Real customer service, not that crap they offer.

What is saving Best Buy right now is a billion in cash socked away. Its model is becoming anachronistic. It can only hope that Amazon is forced to charge sales taxes, because it can’t seem to compete on price points.

Amazon is ALREADY charging me sales tax; as it does with any shipment to ND.
Here’s a novel idea: How about Best Buy quits selling JUNK and sells quality product instead? That’d be a change from the current business plan.

That’s because Amazon has a presence in ND.

What sort of bonehead can ‘thumbs down” on FACT?
FACT is, Amazon charges sales tax to any shipment in ND.
FACT is, Amazon has an in-state presence.
What is to disagree with?

Schurkey, some time ago I opined that someone would thumbs-down “Abraham Lincoln was 16th president of the US.” People don’t let facts get in the way of their dislikes.

FACT: NOT every single thing that BB sells is junk. My Nikon D90 with extra lenses and backpack, Laptop Computer, Kindle Fire and countless CD’s, DVD’s, Blu-Ray’s and Xbox 360 games all came from BB GFK and I guarantee that they ALL work just as well and look just as well as if I would have bought them from Amazon or anywhere else.

I would shop at Best Buy more if they had better customer service here in GF. The other day, I went in there needing a new range. I picked one out that i wanted to buy. But, after 20 minutes of waiting for someone to help me, I gave up and took my money to Sears instead. This isn’t the first time something like this has happened to me at Best Buy. Ordering stuff online can be cheaper, but sometimes I feel it is easier buying at a higher price from a retailer because you see what you are getting before you buy it. Plus when I shell out large sums of money for a product, I want it now and don’t really want to wait for shipping.

I started avoiding BB when years ago they’d try to sell you MSN internet even if you went in to buy batteries. I understand they succeeded with an 80 year-old woman who didn’t have a computer. Her son went back and raised hell with them.

MSN internet: Contradiction in terms.
Very similar to their pressure to buy extended warranties.

Yeah, those warranties are a racket. Pure profit for them. They even make you pay to send the item back for repair.

Warranties are a lot like gift cards. But here’s a good one: New Jersey is going to try to pass a law that says if you don’t use the card in 2 years, the state takes the money. Hope the ND legislature isn’t listening.
