I dunno; two sides to every story. Cops aren’t exactly known for their honesty, especially when they left a dude’s face looking like punching bag…

Seems like Mr gault is a angry imdividual, instead of detaning him and holding him down until the police came he decided to beat his face in and act like hes above the law. The dglobe also seems very biased, if this was in a larger city im pretty sure that officer would be in some heat.

Even though this Bockenstedt guy is obviously a menace & I’m glad he’s off the streets, his mug shot is alarming. He looks the poster child for police brutality! The situation sounds like it went way out if control really fast, but you’d think a veteran officer like Gaul would be well trained in detaining someone without such extreme force.

No, of course I’ve never been in that situation. Loud music or not I would never have got out of my car & approached a guy like that – especially if I had my child with me. Mr. Gaul is a cop so I understand why he would. Don’t get me wrong, I do indeed have a lot of respect for law enforcement. I’m grateful that they get people like the suspect in this case off the streets. However, even if the law justifies using deadly force, I’d hope that exerting the least amount of force possible would be protocol.

It is a great concern when this guys both eyes are shut closed! I wouldnt be suprised if he has some fractures. He is a menace but thats dosent mean his beating is acceptable. I hope he is a smart guy and lawyers up bc those wounds on his face tell a story of the officers lack of self control, which is dangerous when you are a officer of the law.

Fine line of police officer and civilian. If Gaul claims he was an officer, then shouldn’t he be held to the standers of restraint when controlling a suspect? OR is he a civilian in self defense? Either way, this punk got what he deserved. However, i am not 100% comfortable if Gaul stated he was an officer and then used that level of beating to restrain the man. Most police alone, would call for support and Gaul should have done just that and waited. Leaving the car to confront the man was not wise.

After further discussion, i believe that Gaul needs to take some blame for this. As was stated, he had his 13 year old son with him. Yet, Gaul chose to follow the man after they exchanged words and Gaul KNEW he had a weapon. Then he proceded to leave his vehicle a 2nd time. Anyone that would be concerned about the safety of their son, would have called the police, report his license number, and GO HOME or wait for an on duty office to handle the situation. I can not imagine how, what Gaul did, was to help protect his son in that situation, if anything he placed his son in harms way.

Maybe just getting the license number and calling it in for someone on duty to handle? Maybe dad showing Jr. how he handles the bad guy? Maybe this drunken man did need this extreme beating in order to protect your safety and mine? I’d say This Is Too Far From The Norm and the public (The Employer) needs to know.

I believe none of us were even there to judge this either party that was involved. To do so is ignorant.

What happens if it’s your spouse, child or parent that are affected? What happens when a person like this (Officer) beats them or takes someone else’s life? What If, NO, what did is what counts. We just can’t live our lives in that (What If Bubble).
