Study ND Measure 2 before voting
April 20, 2012 at 7:00 pm in The Dickinson Press
Greetings from your District 36 senator. My last article focused on the procedure of running as a candidate for a political office in the state. This article I would like to discuss Measure 2, which will be voted on in the primary election June 12. Continue Reading

It is very disappointing to read such a list of unsubstantiated claims and speculations emanating from a state senator. Yes, M2 will mean a dramatic change. It will mean real ownership of one’s home—not living as a tenant in a government ATM machine; it will mean constitutionally mandated “full and proper funding of all political subdivisions” ahead of all the special interest hand-outs; it will mean that the treasure currently heaped up in the state’s coffers will be put back in the hands of the people—not being just a sandbox of gold for bureaucrats and their cronies to play in; it will mean a new focus on the communities and their needs—not government playing Monopoly by choosing winners and losers with other people’s money; it will mean freedom, real development, new jobs, and a breakthrough in getting our children to stay in North Dakota and have good jobs; it will mean an end to tweaking and fiddling in vain attempts to create a vision of North Dakota in the image of the few, while disregarding the hopes of the many. The real currency of North Dakota is not oil, it is not government dreams of power and control, it is still a tradition of freedom and personal responsibility. North Dakota has a destiny, and that destiny is taking form right now. Passing M2 will rock the country. Our little Caesars will quake on their thrones because a good thing is indeed coming out of Nazareth.

Mr Nodland, we have disagreed on many things. On this issue, we agree 100%.

It is said that if you agree 100% with anyone on any significant issue, chances are you are not thinking for yourself. An urge to make sheep-like noises, however, then arises in one’s throat.

Mr. Nodland if you have worked on the local level than you would know only a portion of a city or county budget is from property tax. Why would the state take over deciding budgets when it is only a portion of the budget they are funding? Does the legislature look at every school budget now? The schools are getting close to 70% of their local budget funded NOW, by the legislature. Mr Nodland have you read Measure 2? It can be found on YesM2.com and you may want to get updated with the Forbes article on the 44% increase in tax collections at bbuz.biz\in_the_news. The state is taking in $4.8 million dollars a day, yes a day! Why are you as legislators holding out with funding for those you are supposed to represent? Your constituents are seeing their property values inflate while you are worrying about looking at 2100 budgets, how many budgets do you look at in your position, now, do you look at every government department? You have failed to acknowledge the needs of those who give you your position, I would say it is time for you to put on your big pants and step up, take responsibility and do what is necessary to help the property tax payers in your area. Measure 2 eliminates property tax and replaces the property tax revenue dollar for dollar with the other taxes we are already collecting in our state.
