What the heck…this is so stupid…look at the track record of the CBM industry in other states…water contamination..aquifer after aquifer of contaminated water…DRINKING water…not slop water as in conventional oil and gas drilling. The “industry” is flaring NATURAL gas like there is no tomorrow (one-time harvest) and it is wasted…so now they are looking at CBM again? The CBM Well known as the Kirshenman 1-27 in Hettinger was plugged and abandoned in 2007 and has yet to be reclaimed…according to well file # 15086 withing the NDIC well files accessible by subscription….and is in violation of NDAC 43-02-03-19 which states “in part that within a reasonable time, not more than ONE year, after a well is plugged, the well site, access road, and other associated facilities for that well shall be reclaimed as closely as practical to original condition or in the case of a completed well the unused portion of that well shall be reclaimed” (in a letter dated 12-24-2009 to one Brad Bates Endeavor Energy Res of Midland Texas. Said company is also in violation of well file 12827 on federal land in McKenzie County (since 2007) as stated in a letter to Endeavor May 9, 2007…gee…looks like a spill that was never taken care of.
My point being there are hundreds and hundreds of wells that are plugged and abandoned that are in violation in this state…before we go jumping on the CBM bandwagon let’s make the industry clean up what mess they have already made.
The oil and gas industry is out of control in this state. I have seen it first hand. Surface damages are in the millions of $$ and all we can think about is drill baby drill.
I speak as a mineral owner and share holder in about a dozen wells and I could benefit personally from CBM but will not EVER. Mineral owners…remember to EXCLUDE CBM development in your leases. You are more powerful than you think. Our water is already in danger from drawing down of the aquifers and fracking…let’s not put our most valuable resource in further danger by developing CBM.
