Letter: Redistricting fails to reflect census
April 17, 2012 at 7:00 pm in Worthington Daily Globe
I heard today that Nobles County commissioners decided on Plan No. 1 for redistricting. Clearly, they did not take into consideration the population shift that has occurred. Continue Reading

As I understand the plan that was accepted, there is an opportunity for 4 Worthington residents to be county commissioners. Line up some horses and get them in the race. All runners will certainly have a fair chance at being considered this year!

Good article Mayor…so what you’re saying, is that, this may be another case of the Nobles County Board of Commissioners being presented with many different options, and yet, they continue to choose the option that makes the least sense or is self preserving? Sometimes when you’re stuck in a rut, some don’t know how to turn the wheel ever so slightly to get back on firm ground. These commissioners can not figure that out on their own.

Thank you Mayor.
To the citizens of Nobles County, You all had a chance to vote many of these commissioners out last election cycle and some of these commissioners have been elected several times and been serving for years. You can’t place blame solely on the heads of the commissioners when the power of who occupies those positions is in the hands of the people. Stay informed to make wise votes instead of just maintaining the status quo.

“You can’t place blame solely on the heads of the commissioners when the power of who occupies those positions is in the hands of the people.”—- Unfortunately, the irresponsible behavior of the Commissioners was well hidden until this last Ruppert fiasco. Many things came to light and the actions of the Commissioners were at center stage. Trust me, if we all would have known what was going on before, none of them would have remained in their positions. Some projects, such as driveway tarring/paving were rushed, and forced to be done before the election last time, so letters of worship could be garnered by the incumbent, I hope those that look at the sub par job that was done, and the actions of the incumbent, realize they were bamboozled. It’s NOT the peoples fault when the actions, of people you trusted, were hidden.

There were signs of cracks in the wall last election cycle for anyone who way paying attention.

It is not just that people have to get out there and vote out the commissioners, but concerned citizens that actually care about Nobles County and are willing to do what is right for the entire county and not just what is best for the administrator or other pet projects NEED to get out there and file to seek election for these positions! If you don’t have people filing to run for the positions, you cannot vote for someone different. In past years there have been commissioners that have run UNOPPPOSED!! How can you vote out the worthless commissioners that currently occupy their spots if no one runs? Please remember all that has happened over the last several years-the employees that have left or been fired, the working relationships with other counties hurt possibly beyond repair and the downright LIES that have been told to the citizens of Nobles County!!! Filing opens soon and people need to get out there and file for these spots. The citizens of Nobles County have been given the opportunity to clean the slate. Remember “Get rid of them all this fall”!! I for one hope that someone files to run against the commissioner in every district so we all have the chance to show how lying and misrepresenting things and downright disgraceful actions-paying someone to sit at home-is not going to be tolerated in Nobles County!

True. Sometimes commissioners run unopposed, lets face it, most of the time, but there were some opposition last election round and only 1 get elected while the status quo was maintained everywhere else. Anytime someone spoke out against the goings on before the Rupert thing blew up, everyone shouted opposing opinions down and now everyone blames the commissioners but no one wants to take the responsibility of who they voted for in the last election(s).
They want people who run to have business experience and many who have that experience are too busy or don’t have an interest in running.
I know some people who care about Nobles County, but since they don’t have a business background, so they don’t think they’d be taken seriously as a candidate.
It’s a real shame too, because their heart is in the right place.

Now that the conversation is shifting from what we’re mad about to what needs to change, let’s list some things we’d like to see changed.
1. Recently a voter suggested to me that meetings be held in the evening when working people could attend the meetings and contribute. Presently only those that attend the commissioners meetings are ‘paid’ county employees and thankfully the the press to inform us. It’s time emergency volunteers, taxpayers, and ……. have a seat at the table and be heard.
