Romney heads for NRA event to woo conservatives
April 13, 2012 at 6:54 am in West Central Tribune
ST. LOUIS Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney will tell National Rifle Association members that President Barack Obama is not protecting gun owners’ rights, even though the administration has said little about firearms and has deeply disappointed gun-control advocates.

Yeah, right. More hot air.
Maybe if states would have looked a little further into this “take a stand” law, there wouldn’t be all the news about the killing of a 17 year old in Florida? And we all know which party pushed for that, don’t we?

No he didn’t promise that and tell me what laws have been introduced or passed to suggest that is what he is doing. Only thing passed was the right to allow guns in Federal parks. That’s a funny gun restriction.

I’d just love to see one law that has been passed since Obama has been in office that would ‘take our guns away’.
Although some 30 or so states have passed ill-advised laws that might just end up doing just that.

mrs bill (aka H. S. A. BHO did let up a little and will allow one smooth bore (shotgun, single shot) to be owned and used by Americans in each city Block. Do think mrs bill did get it passed.

The only reason the right to carry concealed weapons in national parks was signed by Obama was because it was a miscellaneous provision attached to the Credit Cardholders Bill of Rights bill which Obama badly wanted passed. The concealed weapons in national parks provision put in the credit card bill was put in by Sen Tom Coburn (R) Oklahoma

The thing is ,Nora, you made it sound like Obama took the initiiative to allow concealed weapons in national parks when nothing could be further from the truth. He only reluctantly signed the bill because he wanted the Credit Cardholders Bill of Rights to be passed. His record on gun ownership both in the Illinois legislature and as president is not very good.

Carl Obama never stated he was taking anyones guns away! Where do you people come up with such paranoid misleading propaganda? Obama does not want automatic weapons on our streets just like other Politicians have vote for on both sides. He never stated he was taking our guns he said he wanted to take the guns out of the hands of criminals and make sure only responsible people owned them. Our main gun control laws started after Reagan was nearly assassinated when the Brady bill was introduced and both parties were in on that! I am amused on how Conservatives keep using the scare tactics, and swear the sky is falling? Carl what color is the sky in your world?

Of course Obama wouldn’t say he wanted to take anyone’s guns away. He’s sly but far from stupid. Automatic weapons for the most part aren’t legal. now. Many states do allow SEMI-AUTOMATIC handguns to be carried concealed with a permit. When Obama was an Illinois state senator he did vote to ban law abiding people from owning a handgun in Chicago. Only recently was that ban overturned by the US supreme court because it violates the 2nd amendment. Obama is a master at making it appear he’s in favor of one thing all the while his voting record comes back to tattle on him. In particular read the link I posted of Obama’s record while he was a state senator. Of course he has laid very low on the issue during his first term as president. If he is re-elected he would be free to let his real plans come out. If the democrats take control of both sides of congress they can push issues like gun control just like they ramroded Obamacare through.

Trying to tell the gun zealots that there is no threat to their gun rights is a losing battle. They will never be satisfied until a gun is issued to each newborn, everybody carries, and stand-your-ground laws in every state make the need for law enforcement just a matter of determining who shot whom. Of course, if everybody has a gun, then the guy who wins has the biggest gun so pretty soon we’ll have people wheeling around assault rifles on little stands. Before you know it, people will band together as street wars erupt among rivals. By that time, chaos will have ensued and our peaceful and law-abiding way of life will have disappeared forever. Is that what we want? That’s where we’re heading.

Just google obama gun control comments…
During the meeting, President Obama dropped in and, according to Sarah Brady, brought up the issue of gun control, “to fill us in that it was very much on his agenda,” she said.
“I just want you to know that we are working on it,” Brady recalled the president telling them. “We have to go through a few processes, but under the radar.”
“The statement reinforces an article in the Huffington Post describing how the administration is exploring ways to bypass Congress and enact gun control through executive action.”

I’m sure that because this article was on Foxnews it will be immediately poo pooed by liberals. What Obama has done at the federal level is peanuts though compared to his opposition to firearms while he was an Illinois state senator. He accidentally gave us a hint of his plans for once he is re-elected and no longer has to worry about being elected again when he thought the mic was off and he was telling the Russian president he can do a lot more of his agenda later.

What does Mitt know about guns? He managed to get deferments to keep from serving in Nam, and was an anti-war protestor. Mitt is also a corporate Raider, and he takes no prisoners, he took money from a company that was going out of business. Romney’s company suggested the airlines lay off 13,000 workers, and take the Pensions and privatize them turning them into 401k’s! This guy is cold blooded and if he can make a buck gutting a company he would. The best part about all this is we don’t have to worry about Romney becoming President especially if he needs to stand with the NRA to make a speech! If this is the best the GOP has, the people are in good shape, and will remain in good hands!

Bill Clinton was an anti-war protestor and draft dodger yet democrats considered him one of the best presidents ever. He pushed just as hard as was possible to make it difficult for law abiding folks to buy a firearm. Criminals are never going to have a problem obtaining firearms. It’s not like they go through all the process of legally buying a gun. Their gun store comes to them in the form of a car trunk. Often the guns they buy this way have the serial number ground off because they are stolen. I don’t think Romney has much of a record either pro or con on gun control issues. Unfortunately for Obama he does especially in the Illinois state senate and it’s not a good one. At least Romney did take the time to go to the NRA annual meeting to assure law abiding gun owners of his support for them. Where was Obama? He could have gone to the NRA annual meeting in 2008 while he was campaigning for president. Could it be he really does not support the right to keep and bear arms? If his two supreme court appointment are any indication I doubt he has any respect for the 2nd amendment.

You really need to research Mitts gun record…”I don’t think Romney has much of a record either pro or con on gun control issues”….as Gov of Mass, he signed legislation to BAN assualt rifle sales in his state. He suppored the Brady Bill. When asked about his support of the Brady Bill he stated, “”That’s not going to make me the hero of the NRA. I don’t line up with the NRA.”. Also he stated in 02, “We do have tough gun laws in Massachusetts; I support them. I won’t chip away at them; I believe they protect us and provide for our safety.” Again as Gov he signed a bill that extended the term of firearm licenses from four to six years and reinstated a 90-day grace period for citizens renewing their gun licenses. I wouldn’t say that is neutral at all. I would call that anti-gun. His record speaks for itself.

Romney might not have a stellar record on gun control as governor of one of the most liberal states in the union. However he did care enough to join the NRA as a life member in 2007. What do you think the odds of Obama joining the NRA are? Pretty poor I’d say. Mitt most likely won’t get an A grade from NRA but they will definitely endorse him over Obama a man with a proven record of doing everything in his power to push gun control. Obama is sly not stupid. He knew that gun control is not a winning campaign strategy on the federal level. He has to wait until after the election to push for new gun laws. Romney has pledged to not pass any new gun laws at the federal level. Obama continues to talk about passing “common sense” gun laws. “Common sense” in whose opinion? Often politicians don’t even know what they are talking about such as in the case of “assault weapons”. They confuse such things as AR-15s with actual military weapons such as the M-16 or M-4. AR-15s are used by a lot of varmint hunters such as coyote hunters. I’m guessing Romney only gets a C or maybe a B from the NRA but Obama definitely gets an F.

So your telling me, that the guy that signed BANS on guns (the exact AR-15s you like) get a C or B….and the guy that signed laws to carry guns into national parks gets an F??? WOW…pull your head out. Romney gets a gun lover pass cause he bought an NRA membership?? that doesn’t mean anything. HIS RECORD shows he is anti-gun and is only pleasing the NRA to get votes. Obamas record is what exactly….name one ban he has signed. The idea that “he hasn’t passed gun laws now, BUT HE WILL!!” is insane.

When Romney got the “assault weapons” ban passed it was to prevent the purchase of assault weapons. As far as I know it was not illegal to continue to own an “assault weapon” already in your possession. You have to remember he was governor of a very liberal state. A state where extreme liberals like the Kennedys and John Kerrey were elected over and over. Yes I agree Romney did pander to the liberals in Massachusetts but he would never have been elected if he didn’t. He gave the people of Massachusetts what they wanted. Obama did sign a document while running for the Illinois state senate that showed his support for a total ban on not only buying a handgun but even owning one in Chicago. On that same document he showed his support for an “assault weapons” ban. Check the link I posted abover. When Bush let the ban on assault weapons (passed by Bill Clinton by the way) Obama gave his opinion that Bush was making a mistake letting it expire. On his website he still lists his support for “common sense” gun laws. As far as allowing guns in national parks I really doubt he would have signed it if it had been a stand alone bill but being attached to a law he badly wanted to pass he signed. I have to go by what Romney and Obama are saying now. Romney is saying no new gun laws. Obama is saying he favors “common sense” gun laws. The choice is pretty clear.

well you have Romney saying one thing…then his record shows a COMPLETE opposite. Gun laws (passed stricter ones), Planned Parenthood (supported them), and Medicare (Romneycare)…all he has said one thing now, yet did the opposite when in office. Obama hasn’t done 1 law or bill to lessen the 2nd amendment rights while in office, unlike Romney…yet you still fail to believe Romney is more anti-gun. Also the “common sense” gun laws are actually common sense…ie, ban high capacity handgun clips to civilians. NO logical reason for a civilian to have a 20 round handgun clip. If you go by what politicians say NOW, then you are a very uneducated voter. A RECORD speaks louder than words (and even you try Obamas past statements, but fail to recognize Romneys).

Not true at all. Obama DID vote for various anti-gun bills while an Illinois state senator. Did you look at the link I posted for when he was a state senator? I’m not going to list every bill he voted for but you can check it out on the posted link. As far as magazines any machinest worth his salt can modify a shorter magazine to make a higher capacity magazine. I have 5 twenty round magazines for my M1A. The only thing bans on higher capacity magazines do is drive the price up on them. There are loads of them already owned by law abiding people. California has a 10 round limit on magazines and I really doubt their crime rate is any lower because of it.

“As far as magazines any machinest worth his salt can modify a shorter magazine to make a higher capacity magazine.”…oh and anyone with any chemical backgroun can make Meth, but that doesn’t justify the legality of it. Just cause someone can do whatever, doesn’t mean a law shouldn’t be against it. If you were to make a high capacity mag, if they were illegal, you would be in violation of the law.
So, you use Obamas PAST record to determine his gun views, but not Romneys….i would say that is 100% hypocritical.
