Tea Party groups expect largest Duluth rally yet
April 11, 2012 at 7:00 pm in Duluth News Tribune
While local Tea Party activists have kept a low profile since their success in the 2010 elections, Sunday’s rally is expected to draw thousands from across three states. Continue Reading

There you go again Tom Tom, misguided, spewing the usual ultra-radical left Kool-Aid talking points. I give you a C- for effort and an F for factual content but your hero Saul would be proud of your efforts. Do you and your government union buddies get paid to spread the rhetorical fiction all over?
Who do Wisconsin voters want, Job Killer Jauch or $3.6 billion dollar deficit fixer Walker? Only public union grubs don’t want Walker. All the members union money being wasted on this should have gone to union member retirement and benefits but oh no, the racketeering continues. I will never understand why you are against high paying jobs and a balanced budget Tom.
Obama, the biggest corporatist Wall St. owned president ever, and the Bolshevik left have killed high paying jobs, high unemployment, lower wages, inflated food and energy prices, devalued the dollar by 30 percent, accumulated $6.6 trillion more deficit spending, has wasted billions on Solyndra and other pie in the crony green like cash rip-off schemes, Stimulus 1-2, QE 1 2 3…, bailing out of banks, crony corporations, wasted another trillion on the war machine, and more. Can you say Obama will be ONE AND DONE Tom? Real hope will then be on the way. The Obama record speaks for itself loud and clear. Hope and change is the biggest lie of all time.
Not one member of the US House voted for Obama’s budget. Can you say ZERO Tom?
The DEM lead US Senate has not brought a budget to the floor for almost 3 years. Money and economic stability have never been strengths of the radical left.
I’m going to go to this Tea Party because you motivated me Tom. I might as well see what it’s all about. Thanks for the inspiration whack, with an H, job friend!

That was an awful lot of disinformation and falsehoods to choke on all at once…will try to tackle a couple…
http://www.alternet.org/newsandviews/article/479146/wi_governor's_fake_budget_crisis:_gave_tax_breaks_to_wal-mart_to_further_real_agenda_–_union_busting/
Walker gave tax breaks to major corporations first then played Monte Shell game after cut revenues and claimed state had budget crises despite at time the state accounting department predicted would actually have over a 128 million surplus. It was all just so he had an angle to attack the Unions. Then after he removed bargaining rights used the state accounting numbers to claim he fixed budget crises.
Conservatives inheritantly lack the ability to grasp rudimentary concepts and apply common sense. If there was a budget crises why would a Governors first act be to cut revenue? How does removing unions future bargaining rights fix a proclaimed immediate budget crises? Concentrate real hard and see if light bulb goes on?
Voter Fraud. Nobody can prove it even though Repubs have tried for decade to run this scam. In Minnesota the tea-party even offered a $500 reward to members who’d watch polling places in 2010 if could prove a case of voter fraud. Nobody could. The ACLU recently offered a $1,000 reward to anyone who could prove voter fraud and show how photo ID would prevent it. Nobody could including Minnesota Majority that been lobbying for photo ID. FAUX News has repeatedly said Frankens election was fraught with voter fraud and why he won but Sen. Colemans legal team reported to Supreme Court that they couldn’t find a single case of voter fraud.
So again, the lacking of common sense. How does Walker passing a law that requires photo ID for a problem that doesn’t exist while wasting millions to do so make Walker some fiscally responsible hero?
The tea-party loves to wail about taxes and how unfair. Fact is that there has been no significant increase in federal income taxes since 1993.
Then DFL you actually said was Obama’s fault for~ “bailing out of banks, crony corporations, wasted another trillion on the war machine” Here is repeated lies fed to the conservatives apparently because so maleable and uninformed that they are willing to believe lies and utter nonsense. It was the Republican policies that created the biggest economic disaster of our lifetimes. It was Bush that deregulated Wall Street Brokerage firms, Banks and Insurance companies that set up the greed that led to our economic collapse. It was Bush that wasted over 3.5 trillion on a war based entirely on lies. It was Bush and not Obama that wrote and signed the Tarp Acts to bail out Banks, Brokerage firms and Insurance companies. It was Bush that first cut our revenue by over 1.5+ trillion as response to dealing with the recession in 2001 with promise it would create jobs and that would actually pay off our deficit. Bush actually had worse job creation record of any President and added more to deficit then any other President in our history.
Someone properly informed and not misinformed with garbage with an ounce of common sense would know that the whole economy collapsed, the banks, wall street, insurance, auto industry, jobs, record trade deficit. a DOD budget that doubled in 8 short years all took place before Obama took office and all things he inherited. Then there’s the conservatives who instead after totally destroying our economy through their failed policies are trying to hang that on Obama while claiming that if they get complete control they’ll do the exact same things that messed us up but this time it will be great…and to the misinformed and uneducated and easily maleable…apparently this makes sense…

Let’s look at Scott Walker’s record so far:
Solved budget problems while not requiring the laying off of teachers (what the Teacher’s union wanted as a compromise to preserve their Democrat money-laundering machine).
Passed Voter ID to ensure that real disenfranchisement of honest voters doesn’t occur. Right now it is almost impossible to catch someone committing voter fraud, as they can simply buy voter rolls, walk into a polling place and masquerade as a valid voter. Students can vote twice, once in their school home, and also in their former residence by absentee.
Passed and signed “Concealed carry”–when one talks about the “war on women” they also need to consider the ability of an abused woman to defend herself. The Democrats have stood against CCW and guns in general–they are “pro” abusee.
Passed a collection of legislation to protect women from abusers: Stalkers now have to wear GPS units, and new legislation goes after child abusers and inter-state white slavery traffic. Where were the Democrats on this? Oh yeah, they were fighting for more public employee benefits.
Pushed for an explosion of mining in Northern WI, as the Democrats wail about their Green fantasy and demogogue the issue. Since when has iron mining destroyed the environment? Have any of these Dems ever heard of the Iron range? Being pro-Dem has now become being anti-job.
I can go on and on. If you want the prior status quo of low job growth, anti-gun, anti-job, and anti-woman Democrat rule–then vote against Walker. It is your own loss if you are successful as your children move.

This could be the largest group of misled and confused people in the state– Looking at the crowd pictures I don’t see any millonaires, Oil tycoons or bank presidents. These are the only people who will be ahead if the tea party gets its way. I wonder what would happen to all these confused people when social security, medicare, all aid to women and children including hot lunch programs and early childhood care are eliminated. Just keep supporting big business, tea partier’s, It never worked in the past and it won’t save your sorry butts this time either.

I just don’t understand the angst of these people. I know of a place where there is very limited government. None of the hated safety nets, or entitlement programs. No regulation on business. Everyone pulls themselves up by their own bootstraps. Best of all, there are no taxes. I think they should all be motivated to go there as soon as they can. It’s called Somalia. Really Chet? You don’t understand the angst?
Suppose that you make $20,000/yr and suddenly your wife tells you that she spent $30,000, would that cause you “angst”? Well, Obama “inherited” a $10 Trillion dollar national debt, and it is now almost $16 Trillion. Do you think that people will continue to borrow America money indefinitely? Do you understand what a credit rating is? Do you understand that on top of our national debt, we have something on the order of $130 Trillion in unfunded liabilities to Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid? And that this amount can NEVER be covered in the future by business growth or confiscating every dime of public wealth? That doesn’t cause you “angst”?
Well sleep well and hope that you don’t live to see the final end goal of your apathy. Your children will deal with it…

I agree, long term spending must be addressed. Where I break from you people is on 2 counts; First off, nearly every economist in the country says the tax system must be more equitable and that taxes must go up on the wealthy and corporations. But since most of you teapublicans are at heart, corporate apologists, that won’t happen. Secondly, if we do as you wish and slash spending; it would throw the economy into chaos. You guys keep keening on about how we’re going to become Greece. But
Greece is doing exactly what you want the USA to do and their whole economy is going down the tubes in a viscous spiral. Does that government waste money? Yes. However I would vote to close down the empire and take all of our troops out of places like Japan and Germany, Korea and Italy before I would throw any of our own citizens under the bus and take away the safety nets. By the way, social security was completely solvent far into the future until the hero of the right, Reagan, started dipping into it to fund his dirty wars in Central and South America. That opened the floodgates for every legislator and his brother to dip into it to fund who knows what.

Chet, the problem America has is excessive spending, not excessive taxation. America is now #1 in corporate taxation, since even Japan has lowered their corporate tax rate to welcome business. Barack Obama’s “Buffet rule” is also a tax on capital gains, and would make America #4 in the world if enacted. We are a high tax nation in the area of business, and this is crippling us. Business is leaving the country and new business is not coming because of this harsh environment. Would they come here, and would our companies not relocate if our taxes were lower? The signs point to yes Historically–the American worker is among the most productive and educated. We simply want to get a chance at the those jobs.
As for our military prescence around the world, it maintains free trade for ourselves and our partners. Certainly, if we suddenly were to leave the world stage, China and Russia would control the world, and we would start seeing political moves stopping trade in a heavy handed way, and for their benefit. We would then be forced to reenter the fray, and retake said shipping routes, and this may mean a new world war. Is that a smart move? I don’t think so.

As I said Plight, I agree that we waste money, no doubt. Here’s where we differ. I think head start, all day kindergarten, meals for the poor, and other social programs are worth the money. You though would rather see your taxes spent on a navel presence in the Gulf of Aden so we can protect a Korean flagged container ship, filled with Chinese TV sets, bound for France. I don’t see it.

u said it bud not me our military budget ensures capitalism and free trade although not for us and our partners, but for american corporations and international conglomerates. So the corporations get free security and a more stable risk analysis that makes it profiable to venture there, and that is why they should pay for this benefit our country provides them. That being said our military also is why we dont pay more for gas…if the price of maintaining our military presence around the world was reflected at the gas pump or in increased taxes to help fund our neverending wars our eyes would be opened and our mouths aghast.

Notice how the tea partiers hold their rallies on weekends, and the opposition holds it during the week. Hmmm. I always find it interesting speaking with a repub or demo, (I claim neither side as they are both a lil off the rocker) however, I have noticed the repub is informed and the demo is more so opinionated. I for one am sick of the gov’t intrusion, I am a 30 yr old man, who has worked his a$$ off for what I have, yet the person across the street from me lives in an HRA home with a discounted rent. That’s messed up.
I applaud the efforts of the tea party, without you this country will just turn into little pieces of obama in the bottom of the toilet.

The only ones who noticed the occupiers efforts were local hobos who ate the occupiers food and cuddled up to the occupiers in the tents at night. That was the only crowd the occupiers could attract and that is why they became known as the flea party, still nobody noticed. “What happens in Duluth stays in Duluth”…cause nobody is watching and nobody cares about this backwater union controlled dying city.

I guess I owe you an apology. I’ve found other sources that state basically the same thing….Which at face value sounds pretty bad, but that’s giving a total and not accounting for those who whould actually be considered eligable wage earners. Between the elderly, the young, the people with either physical, psychological, or learning disibilities that number goes way down. Then of those who are eligable income earners there’s a host of those who have been downsized one way or other and are either under skilled or under educated…..And with fewer safety nets to help some of those people you have the few unskilled jobs available getting bombarded with applicants. So it’s not all black and white as far as statistics go….
However; I thought you were pulling some statistics from right wing pundits and think tanks so I responded in a snide manner…I do apologize for that…

I’ll be shure 2 tipe reel sloe sos u can unnersatnd. Social parasites are those who are able bodied, but won’t work, preferring rather to live off the public dole. The don’t pay income taxes, thus, by your definition, unpatriotic.
I have a difficult time trying to figure out your wrapped reasoning as to how someone who sees that our country is on a road to destruction via unsustainable spending is in your words unamerican and unpatriotic. It is the selfish social parasite that demand that they get everything they want, even if it bankrupts the country who are unpatriotic. They don’t give a rats arse about the country, only that they get theirs and all others be da%$ed.
The ocuppy bozos say that the protest is all about greed, and I have to agree with that. It’s about the protesters’ greed. They see that somebody has something(that they usually worked hard to earn) and they( the occupiers) want it. They want it, and they want it for free.

HughJ, what percentage of the population do you believe fit into your definition of the people you characterize as “Social parasites are those who are able bodied, but won’t work, preferring rather to live off the public dole.”
What percentage of aid recipients do you believe should not receive the aid they qualify for under current law?
If we used your definitions, and completely cut off these “parasites,” what impact would that have on the national debt or federal budget deficit?
Will these sorts of questions be answered at the rally?

Stand behind your comments, HughJ, and answer my simple questions instead of changing the subject.
As far as your much-beloved 50% meme, other people should know, because I know you don’t care about fair representations, that it includes infants and children, retired people and people never in the labor market. And, it is only referring to federal income tax, not sales tax, gasoline tax, FICA, state income, property tax, capital gains (yep, there’s rich people who pay no income tax counting in your 50% parasite category), etc. But to answer your question, yes, I think those people should not be denied their constitutional right to vote for the candidate of their choice. Moreover, your notion that poor people are all liberals is not supported by demographic studies, which find that even people at the lowest economic rungs of our society are just as politically divided as the rest of the nation.
Now, will you stand behind your comment and answer the questions?

Ya right…The president starrted this “Class Warfare” Get you nose out of the right wing blather and you’ll find that the class warfare started long before president Obama ever even began to run the first time…The real class warefare has been from the top down with selling out Americans with little concern of the over all consequences. Sold out jobs to third world countries with slave and/or near slave labor. They moved there to do what could never be allowed over here…How many people have died in wars to protect our freedom from that kind of behavior on American soil, but in an effort to have cheap crap we just look the other way here? They’ve also have basically bought and sold the government (All sides)
That’s the real class warefare….Don’t believe it…How many people have had charges against them for all the banking scandals that almost brought America to it’s knees? How many real regulations with teeth have been put into law to prevent the banks from doing the same thing again? That is the real class warefare…Gylan had a great line in a song many years ago that went something like…”If you steal a little they call you a thief…If you steal a lot they call you a king” Time to stop listening to the thieves convince you they’re the kings….We don’t support imperalism regardless if they go under the guise of “Banker”

Mark, the Tea Party wants America to get richer. You cannot increase employment, private wealth, and increase money to the US treasury by killing the golden goose. What is the last time that a poor person has given anyone a job? The largest employer in the US is Walmart. The Left wishes they could destroy the company, but where would their employees find new employment? This is the missing point the Left never answers. They wish they could have the Govt hire everyone and pay for it by sticking it to the “rich”, but there would be no rich (except perhaps for the upper level of Socialist Bureacrats) under their philosophy.
What we need is economic freedom, and a good business environment. Under said environment people want to start small businesses to improve their lives, Govt cannot do this. And a percentage of these small businesses will surely become large businesses, just look at Apple and Microsoft. Is there a point where the Left thinks that large employers like these are “evil”, even as they jaunt around screaming and texting on their Ipads?
The funny, yet sad, thing about the Left is that they will never admit the failure of their vision. As we move closer to a Socialist State, we move closer to becoming a country of few producers, and many takers. Eventually, this ends as all Socialisms do–either with complete fiscal destruction, or the Govt becoming Communist or Fascist to control the people who want to change it back.

I think you might be one of the bery few mixed up in the tea party who actually have honorable and logical intentions….Except it seems that you too have been listening too much to the pundits. They continue to talk about a “Socialist Government when we see time after time safety nets have been stripped away that has caused more homelessness and less abilities for the disinfranchised to actually find a way out of their preictiment. This at a time when more people have either fallen off the rolse of empolyment as a result of a lack of safe guards to assure American companies don’t continue to take advantage of thrid world countries while abandoning the working class at home. This has been done through spreading the wealth…From lobbying to the political machine.
You are right…As the American working class goes there goes the world, but with so many of the wealthiest companies secure in the world market, and with a lot of nearly slave wages working force to make their crap, and other rising industrial countries rising their coffers will continue to grow…Until eventually America becomes like those third world countries where the citizens are basically forced to take whatever wages they can get just to substain food for the table, and possible a place to live (There’s families in some countries working for American companies who live in huts made out of the the most basic of materials…No electricity or plumbing…They can barely afford food on what they make….That’s real….And that same level of discern could very well happen here).
So even though you make a few good points…Please…look beyond fox and the right wing pundits for information….You might be surprised….We are definately very far….Way away from the ball park of being close to socialism…..

I don’t follow msnbc or pundits in general….I do despise fox for the propaganda machine it is….I do refer to the made up party as the fox party because that’s who has made them who they are. Without fox…there might be tea’s, but like all the other insignificant parties out there you’d seldom hear about them. I try to be reasonable to the very few from that bunch who actually appear to have some sincer and thought out points, but I have no time for the general talking points the rest of them have
You sound like a resonable person and I’l gladly have serious dbate with you, and hold the fox reference to at least a minimus if at all…

The top 1% of earners pays about 40% of the income taxes in this country. The top 10%, 70% of income taxes. The bottom 50% pay about 3% of all income taxes. Sure, everyone pays sales taxes and FICA taxes, but those taxes were meant to be regressive when they were set up. The idea that the rich aren’t paying their fair share of taxes is absolutely ridiculous.

Merv, have trouble with math much? You may pay at the 10% marginal rate, but as a percentage of all revenues raised via income tax, the bottom 48% pay only 3% of that overall total. Why should someone who pays no income taxes taxes at all have a voice in how they are spent.

Levi! I thought that was you….
Anyway, I see your point on the war issue, although the stimulus package was nearly a trillion dollars and wasn’t paid for either.
As for those who want proof, in order to provide a sense that I am unbiased on the issue, I’ll bring up a PoliFact discrediting a statement by Michele Bachmann. Michele is extremely nice and gracious if you meet her in person, but isn’t always big on the facts. She claimed that the top 1% pay 40% of all federal taxes, which isn’t true. They pay 40% of all income taxes. When you factor in FICA, etc, the figure is more like 28%. It’s a smaller portion, but progressive nonetheless.
I suppose “fair share” means a lot of different things to a lot of different people. I think the “Buffett rule” is a silly idea. It would only bring in a little over $40 billion in additional revenue over 10 years. It would also decrease the value of everyone’s investments because it would pull more money out of the market. However, I would not be opposed to raising the income caps on FICA taxes in order to make them more progressive.

Levi, if the top earners, as defined by obama( greater than $250K/yr and in the 35% marginal bracket) paid 100% of their income as taxes, revenue would increase only $365 billion per year, while Obama’s deficits already exceed 1 trillion dollars per year. Do the math. There simply aren’t enough rich people to tax at 100%, so who ends up paying the freight? The middleclass! And if they get hit with exorbitant taxes, why should they continue to work when the parasitic non-income tax payers would enjoy the same standard of living, but without the labor.
Only the most brain addled and greedy believe Obama’s lies about taxing ourselves back to prosperity.
“We contend that for a nation to try to tax itself into prosperity is like a man standing in a bucket and trying to lift himself up by the handle.”

i never meant to imply i think we should raise taxes, let me try to get across my point better. As my old roomate and college buddy dave said the bailout wasnt funded either, but my point is either defund them (i.e. end wars/reduce miliitary budget/reduce welfare the whole works) or raise taxes (but whose do we raise?) as opposed to borrowing money which raises the debt and increases inflation which indirectly affects lower income people more proportionately. So as it is now yes the middle class is paying for all this, well what is left of it anyways. Thus the income disparity gap widens and there is incentive from the government to redistribute the wealth back to lower income people. I dont WANT to raise taxes i just wont sign a pledge saying i NEVER will.

@ Merv – you posted “I’m in the bottom 50%, and I paid 10%. Surprising, considering that *some* people make 10,000x my income and only have to pay 15%.”
I honestly don’t understand what is wrong with this…let’s use your exact logic.
Hypothetically let’s say you made $10K last year and paid 10% of that in taxes, which would be $1,000. Then let’s look at the other guy, someone who made 10,000 times what you made like you said, so 10,000 x $10,000 = 100 billion dollars. 15% of 100 billion is 15 billion dollars in taxes….which is 15,000 times more tax dollars paid in than you would have….so “not paying their fair share” doesn’t hold water when you do the math. (yes I realize it’s not a flat tax bracket)
Are you upset about the fact that when you subtract $1000 from you $10,000 you made last year you are left with $9,000 and the fictional person who made $100 billion is left with $85 billion after taxes? If that is the case then how can you not call it class warfare? Haven’t your own life decisions landed you where you are at now having only $9K?

@ kperks, why do you have to turn the debate around? I am simply asking what the tea partiers are so upset about. I only mentioned my own taxes to dispel the myth that the lower 50% only pay 3% of their taxes. As for “what should we tax the billionaire” question that you’re trying to pigeonhole me into, that’s irrelevant.
See… Tea partiers benefit from the same things they claim to oppose. If companies across the board refuse to raise wages or hire new workers, then they are saving money. And somebody is earning those profits. They go to the executives and of course the corporate shareholders (of which there are plenty in the Tea Party). So if you own stock in Apple, and they lay off thousands of American workers, you earn a profit at their expense. If you own stock in Sears, and they refuse to pay anyone about $10/hour, you earn a profit at their expense. If you own stock in GE, and Obama gives them a free ride on their taxes, you earn a profit at the expense of the government. If big banks cripple the market because the government has deregulated them, because of conservative rhetoric, somebody’s making money. And this whole time, jobs are being lost, opportunities are taken away, and the government is bleeding to death just so you people can earn a profit. The tea party isn’t in the business of rebuilding the economy and strengthening the middle class… Their stated goals prove just the opposite.
If I go into your home and rob you of all your money and possessions, is it fair for me to blame you for being broke? That’s what the tea party is doing.

Merv-
“I only mentioned my own taxes to dispel the myth that the lower 50% only pay 3% of their taxes” — This is not a myth, it is FACT. Google it my friend. You are not understanding the numbers. It has nothing to do with the actual tax rate that you personally paid. The facts are that if you lump all income tax paid into one pile, the top 10% earners (high earners) have paid 70% of the total pot, and the top 50% of earners have paid a staggering 97% of all income taxes paid. The bottom 50% of people in the country have only contributed 3% of the total pot. These are facts published by the Congressional Budget Office, IRS, etc. This is why it is laughable when lower earners claim the rich need to pay “their fair share”. What is fair? In our current state, almost half of the United States is paying virtually nothing. That is one of the points the Tea Party is trying to clarify to left wingers such as yourself.

Probably the most uninformed comment in DNT history. That was the entire reason for our nation’s founding and break from the English Monarchy. The original tea party was for that very reason.

Nathan, they were simply dumping crates of tea into boston harbor because they didn’t like tea? No, they were doing so because they were going to be paying taxes on that tea.
Despite what you on the “occupy” side think, America is a very independent country of people who don’t like taxation without/or with representation. When the Govt takes one’s tax money to provide it to faux “Green business” like Solyndra, which conveniently always seem to be run by Obama “bundlers”, that is taxation with BAD representation. And that makes Americans angry.

as opposed to spending billions on cronies at halliburton and going to war. Somehow trying to ween us off a resource that makes us have to assuage the middle east (what our wars are really about) by investing in alternative energies to make them viable which they were until china saw that our govt started investing in wind and in response pumped WAYYYYYY more money into their own chinese wind technologies and wiped us off the playing field …and by how?>? Pooling taxes from the citizens and investing in technology at a state level to make it viable in the short term and profitable in the long term is what will make China the leading wind technology producer in the world and us standing behind wondering why we missed this paradigm shift

Representation should never be tied to the amount of income tax paid. That is a hierarchy.
The nice thing about the tea party movement is the lack of central organization. I won’t agree with all of the individual views presented, but the central theme is correct. Our Federal government is bloated with unconstitutional and unnecessary programs that state and local governments could more effectively manage.

The point I was making, and apparently you’re too ignorant to understand, is that non-income tax paying people are voting to extort money from others and spend it on themselves. We experienced this type of mentality in 1917 with the bolshevik revolution ,and we all know how that ended. The rich were robbed and killed. The leftists elite took power, and everybody but the elite ruling politburo slowly began to starve.
What are you bozos gonna do when you run out of other people’s money to spend?

And mervy ol’ boy, let’s take a look at your alleged tax burden. If you earned$10,000, you first have the standard deduction of $5950, reducing your taxable income to $4050, with a tax rate of 10%, so your total fed income tax rate nominally 4%, Not 10%. And for your lousy little $405, you want the congress and Obama to give you a portion of what I’m working hard to earn while you practice your affinity for the weed? AINT GONNA HAPPEN, DOPER!

Listen blowhard. First thing, I don’t want or need anything from you, or anybody else. However, there are people who do need help. And you think those people are better off dead.
Second thing, whatever “wealth” you have wouldn’t exist without poor people. I don’t know what business you’re in, but whether it’s trading goods made by sweatshop labor, leasing houses to poor renters, or operating machinery created from materials mined in the 3rd world, your wealth is created through other people’s poverty. If people weren’t poor, you wouldn’t be wealthy. You’re the leech, not me. And you should pay a higher tax rate for profiting at the expense of others.
Also, I earn more than $10,000 a year. Since when did being in the lower 50% mean I only earn 10K?

“whatever “wealth” you have wouldn’t exist without poor people” ——– Here we go again Merv. You have a perverted misconception of “wealthy” people. Have you read “The Millionaire Next Door” yet like I recommended you do several months ago? Obviously not. The vast majority of people who accumulate wealth are not born rich and do not steal it. They attain it through years of hard work and sound decisions. I’ve given you my story before, you & I are close to the same age. I grew up in a poor, single mother household in West Duluth. I wore hand-me-down clothing and never had a nice bike or a Nintendo. But I worked my a** off with the motivation from my mom and went to college. Worked 20-25 hours a week while attending college, and graduated in 5 years. Now I’m working in the “real world” and making damn good money as an engineer. Built a brand new house a few years ago, vacation with my wife every year, and live comfortably. Was this given to me? Was this earned “on the backs of the poor”. Nope. I just worked my butt off and followed the American Dream. Most of the stories of people with wealth are similar to mine.

The funny thing here is that comments get collapsed with a quick and sudden rapid thumbs down…to hide the comments…it’s a useful tool apparently for those not mentality equiped to debate something like an adult.
Happens all the time to my comments, happened in this thread….and one would think that there’s lots who are disagreeing then with comment…but odd that nobody disputes it. Prove the conservatives are lying, provide proof they are talking nonsense and have not a clue and prove they’re wrong and instead of a debate…you’ll see your comment get collapsed to hide it. This isn’t the place for adult debate…it’s just a hang out for neocon trolls to promote their garbage.
One learns though that despite the collapse of posts where nailed them…when nobody has had over 20 thumb votes to their comment in whole thread ….but within 2 hours your post gets 50 thumbs down…that ahhhh…that’s how ya’ know was good post and hit a bullseye.

Oh, but you can attempt to label me as some liberal commie, which is all the conservatives have for a rebuttal to anything and everything. A child can do that…so all you Repubs are aware….everytime you all step to me with not a fact in hand and nothing but namecalling. red herrings and misdirects as you’ve done all the above Political and you clowns think that is a adult rebuttal…so you all know…all I hear is like a scene from a gradeschool playground and some child huffin’ and puffin’ and stompin’ feet sayin’…~~Oh yeah!!! well my dad can beat up your dad, so there!!
What do I stand for? How about the truth and acting like a responsible adult for starters….you neocons all out to try it.

How funny that the Tea Partiers are holding their rally in a publicly owned building…I think a couple of years ago they had it at Bayfront…a city park. I wonder if they are going to get to their little rally by driving on roads paid for by tax dollars? I bet they might even have some of Duluth’s finest Police officers there to protect them from the tax paying patriots that might protest their event. I could go on and on about Tea party hypocrisy…but I won’t.

Well I will say this. I hope the tea party folks will also be protesting Medicare, Social Security, and the military spending. I hope they are demanding 25% cuts on those budgets at a minimum. Because those three, along with interest on the national debt is 98% of the money we take in currently in taxes. It does seem to me the majority of the tea party people are either at SS or Medicare age, or with in 10 years of it. I truly hope they stick to there guns and demand deep cuts to those programs. If they do, I can be more likely to support them. If not, I have little respect for their movement.
I know Rep. Ryan has talked about it, but I do not see the cut Medicare, Social Security, and military signs at the rallies. People always want cuts on stuff that they are not receiving.
Not trying to put down those who are upset with wasteful spending. Spending does need to be cut. It is just people never want to cut the big three. That is where the majority of the waste is.

If you want real cuts in politics then you first need to make drastic cuts in the whole lobbyist influence game. You need to make drastic cuts in the whole election process game and especially the Americans United rueling that allow someone like Rove to establish a billion dollar war chest….If you on the right think this is just a issue on the left….Do you like Romney? Carl Roves war chest helped knock everyone else out of there….Every time someone else got the lead the dirty guns came out.
What we need is a way to get all that money influence out of the politicians so that we get public servants who are there to actually serve the public and not those who pay the most. This is how you finally get politicians to vote for the public interest…..And this isn’t just a Dem vs Repub issue…It’s a total across the board issue….The amount of money they have to deal with for the election process has pretty much made the old adage the “We have the best government money can buy” a reality. Time and again we see good people go into office and start off trying to do the right hing, but eventually find themselves beholding to those they need to keep an open tap for funds to their war chests…
Bottom line…Get the money under control in the entire election process and we’ll have a better chance to get good governing from those we elect…..And that would hopefully lead into sensible reductions that doesn’t toss out the baby with the bath water…so to speak…

The only way to fix America’s problems is for people to change the way they vote. Libertarian, Tea Party, Republican fine, but Liberalism/Socialism/Communism have no place in American politics. Too may soldiers have died protecting this great country from those tyrannies that it makes me sick to think we have a whole political party that entertains and implements those ideologies.
It frustrates me beyond belief we tolerate this as a Country!
When I talk to my liberal friends, the conversation always ends up with me defending America while they bash America. If you don’t like our constitution, our heritage, etc. LEAVE, but the baseline needs to be we all love our Country. Then we’ll talk.
