Santorum plans to suspend his presidential campaign
April 10, 2012 at 9:18 am in West Central Tribune
WASHINGTON – The Washington Post is reporting that Rick Santorum will announce this afternoon that he is suspending his presidential campaign, all but bringing to a close the 2012 GOP presidential contest and formally handing the nomination to Mitt Romney, according to an official close to the campaign.

What a surprise!
Looks like the Democrats can now focus on Romney. And whatever…

Good riddens! This guy is not only out of touch but he is anti-women which is what actually hurt his bid, which is why he knew the writing on the wall and jumped ship!

Well, evidently most of the GOP didn’t like him. They preferred the non-Christian over the ultra-conservative Christian.

And what part of the contitution prohibits religious testing Nora. I see where the goverment is not supposed to interfer with religious expression. Are you sure you are reading the right document?
The consitution never even says one word about the seperation of church and state, but you probably know that already…

Seriously Nora, where does it say that, I really do want to know. Did you really think you wouldn’t be called on that comment? It is those kind of misleading comments and lies that the Democrats have to use to find support for their unAmerican causes like destroying the constitution.
Unfortunately the ignorant left does not question these statements as long as their handouts continue to arrive.

The Senators and Representatives before mentioned, and the Members of the several State Legislatures, and all executive and judicial Officers, both of the United States and of the several States, shall be bound by Oath or Affirmation, to support this Constitution; but no religious Test shall ever be required as a Qualification to any Office or public Trust under the United States.
Sure we can debate a person’s character, but emphasis is being placed on this issue right now because the republicans don’t have a winning economic plan to run on. They have even soiled each other with arguments about who is the most conservative and have alienated women in the process.
In an election that should have been a cinch for the republicans, given the economy and continued wars, I think it will be a very close race in November. Too many independents have been pushed back to the left with this GOP primary.

Seriously Nora? In no way does that say that we the people cannot consider the persons religion when determining who to vote for in the election. That merely states that no one can be prevented from running for office due to their religious beliefs.
It really isn’t that difficult to understand Nora.

You really don’t understand politics do you Nora. Did you miss the battle between Clinton and Obama 4 years ago? Todays Republican contest is not different other than we have a group of highly competent candidates who are running for office.
As always Nora the public wil forget once the real race begins. Few people really want to see Obama continue to destroy this country. Many are standing by waiting to see who the Republicans nominate before making a decision.
Now that everyone knows it is Mitt polls will continue to show Mitt as the leading candidate for President.

Now, just what is that gibberish supposed to mean, anyhow?
That Mitt is the leading GOP candidate? After everyone else has bowed out?
Maybe you should be looking at his polls amongst women and minorities?
Better still, check out the numbers now that Mitt has gotten a tax filing extension.

Mitt paid a higher percentage tax then Obama did, no surprise there… I pretty sure once the numbers all come out that Mitt will show a significant amount of charitable giving, what do you think Obama and Biden will report?
Mitt has been leading all long bac, please try and keep up will you…
Under Obama women have experienced much higher job loss then any other group. Smart women will see this and realize what loser a Obama is, don’t you agree?
I agree with you last statement about Obama, couldn’t describe him better myself. It does come natural being from Chicago and all.

No Elton Mitt paid 14% because of the stocks he has! Obama paid 20%! Mitt made 21M this year, Obama made 750 thousand. Mitt didn’t want to disclose his tax returns when asked by other Republicans to do so! When he finally did, they were not last years returns because the campaign was hoping for Mitt to win the nomination by April then he will disclose them. Now money should not be the reason we should not like Mitt, but rather his policies and is unconcern for the poor which he actually stated! I mean what more do people need to say this guy is wrong for this nation!

All I know is Santorum quit, and that is the main thing! The guy is bad news for women and for the social safety nets we have. This is another Republican who claims big gov is in everyones life yet he proposes that very thing with all his wild ideas to supress womens rights!

What “rights” has anyone proposed to supress jimmy? Nobody is supressing any ones “rights”. Women can still use birth control and have abortions.
It is not their right to have someone else pay for it anymore then it is my right to have someone else pay for my health care.

When we are talking about health insurance, we are not talking about a hand out. Contraceptives should be be covered by the insurance that we pay expensive premiums to. This is not a matter of religious freedom, its about gender equity. This is a health issue and an economic issue. When women, both single and married, can plan affordably plan pregnancies they will lower their health care and day care expenses. This was a very silly path for Santorum to go down. He forced Romney way to the right on this topic too – it will be hard for him to go back to the middle one this subject and win back women and independent’s votes.

Buy a policy that includes contraceptives but keep in mind contraceptives are available with or without insurance, nobody is keeping you or anyone else from buying contraceptives.
There is no more a “right” to have contraceptives paid for by others then is is a “right’ to have someone pay for my car.
Again I ask, what “rights” have been taken away from women?

I’m done talking to a wall – we have different views here. I’m a woman who has had employer provided insurance that did and didn’t cover contraceptives – there really isn’t the affordable choice that you say women have.

We don’t have different views Nora. I have facts, you have views. You cannot deny that contraceptives are available.
Where did I say affordable choice? Why is it someone elses responsibility to pay for your choice? Why does your ilk keep calling it “a right” when it is not a right to have someone else pay your bills for you. You are not required to stay with a employer if you don’t like the benefits – move on.
The only “rights” the left believe in is having someone pay for what they want, spend your own money!

I try to stay above the fray and not call people names, but you are the rudest poster on this website. This page is all opinion until credible sources are cited from research. Neither one of us have done that – we are both offering differing opinions on this topic. Comparatively, our banter is what is happening at the national level. The only way our country will solve these issues is by compromise but too many folks on both side dig in their heels and attack the other side. Lighten up – this polarization is going to be our nation’s downfall.

Now, I can not post anything to prove that a right does not exist since by definition it does not exist. You however should be able to post SOMETHING that supports your contention that womens rights are being taken away.
This is not a opinion site, it is a site for people to comment and that is all. Opinions are opinions but lies are strictly lies. If someone knowingly states that someones rights are being taken away even though they are not being taken away that is a lie.
Yes Nora there is such a thing as right and wrong. Most of us were taught that in our childhood.

Rick Santorum is a Catholic. The Catholic church is against artificial birth control. It’s as simple as that. I hadn’t realized that modern birth control pills often don’t prevent fertilization of an egg. What they do is prevent implantation of the fertilized egg in the uterus. That would be a violation of Catholic teaching. It IS a matter of religious freedom and has nothing to do with women’s rights. They are free to go somewhere else to get their birth control. Rick Santorum is not anti-woman at all. He is a good husband and a good father to his children in my opinion.

No Westby it is not as simple as that, no politician has a right to use Religious beliefs to undermine social programs, and interfer with womens rights, simple as that. Talking to some of these far right conservatives is like talking to the wall! Oh wait now if it concerns their daughters or granddaughters then it is ok right? Same as SS, and Medicare, they complain how unconstitutional they are, yet they don’t have a problem drawing it. Women have the right to use birth control or choose abortion! Now why is it so hard for the rightwing judgmental selfrighteous people to grasp? Birth control beats abortion are these people that dense? This is no perfect world, and this is not a Catholic Nation, this Nation is open to all Religions! We are a nation of choices, a nation of social programs designed to help the needy or the down and out, the elderly and the disabled. Politicians like Santorum should have joined the Piest hood, then he can preach his views to those who want to accept them. Religion and state seem to be the Republican way! The other problem is they seldom practice what they preach, and are seldom honest with themselves!

Did you miss the part where I said women are free to go elsewhere to get their birth control, jimmy? Just don’t expect Catholic hospitals to provide birth control because it isn’t going to happen. I think Catholic hospitals would either shut down or only provide health care to Catholics if push comes to shove. I don’t know if all of Obamacare will get shot down but I’ll take odds right now that the mandate to buy health insurance will be mainly because it’s unconstitutional.

Anybody, including politicians can vote their conscience. No one, not even a politician, is required to give up their fundamental believes on any topic. If some, yes even a Catholic, is voted into office and part of his platform is anti-abortion then he was elected by a majority that agree with his position.
There is no seperation of church and state jimmy. There is only the state no being able to dictate to anyone what religion they should be and the state is not allowed to interfer with anyones religious beliefs.
If women chose birth control it is available, abortions are also available. There is no “right” to make the insurance companies or the tax payers pay for a womans choice. No one is stopping any woman from chosing anything, they just need to pay for it themselves.

Politicans have no right to impose Religious beliefs based on what the Church wants or believes in. When you take public office you represent everyone. As for Catholic Hospitals are you telling me if someone is not Catholic they should not be treated or given what they paid for. If Catholic hospitals doesn’t want to provide B.C then why should they receive gov aid? If they want to run these hospitals they operate them for everyone, or then they just support them themselves or for those who are Catholic and want to support them. Catholic Hospitals and Churches are tax excempt, and they have no problem cashing in on that. If you take tax excempt then you should also provide B.C especially for high risk patients or young women not yet able to understand or capable of caring for a baby. This is not a perfect world as much as some people want it to be, and those people must live on an island?

If Catholic hospitals only provide services to Catholic patients they are exempt from the requirement to provide birth control. Get it jimmy? They want to be able to provide care for everyone but they won’t go against their religious beliefs. Once again Obama and the Democrat congress are on the wrong side of religious liberty. What if the government decreed that Jewish hospitals or Islamic hospitals (not sure if there are any) had to serve pork to their non-Jewish or non-Muslim patients who wanted to have pork. Would you be okay with that too jimmy? I think all non profit hospitals are tax exempt regardless of their religious affiliation or non affiliation. The only government “aid” that I’m aware of Catholic hospitals getting is Medicare and Medicare that is going to pay for the care of patients usually at a lower rate than what regular insurance would pay for those same services.

Where in my comment did I mention religion jimmy? Or do you believe that people who are not religious have no morals or a conscience? Seriously jimmy?
As far as Catholic Hospitals if liberals want to shut down all the good work they do over birth control so be it. Unlike people of your ilk there are people who have core beliefs that are not subject to goverment dictate or the whim of the liberal elite.
No it is not a perfect world but that is no reason to just give in to pagans who have no moral compass.
