Was late-night prowler a cougar?

When Rick Jones of Alexandria stepped outside his house at 5:30 a.m. on March 3, he noticed a set of animal tracks in the newly fallen snow right off his front steps.
He noticed their unusual shape and how closely the paws were set together on each set of prints.
And then he noticed the gait how the hind foot landed ahead of the front foot and the long gap between each set of prints. Continue Reading

I don’t know if this was a cougar or not (possibly a lynx??). I tend to lean towards the cougar theory. Either way, the DNR officer needs to go back to school for even suggesting a “large dog”. The DNR (even when faced with photo evidence from a trail cam) has tried to pass cougar sightings off as large ferrel cats.

The tracks appear to be very similar to tracks I discovered the first part of Dec 11, along East Lake Carlos Drive I photoed them and forwarded them to the DNR there response was a wolf track. I have about a dozen pictures with various angles and some with a tape measure next to the print, showing this is a very large animal print. The print is approximately 5 1/2 inches long and 4 inches wide. After comparing the prints to some internet site prints available I’m reasonable sure it’s a Wolf.
