Focusing on employment growth and improving the economic climate in Minnesota has been a priority at the Legislature since I arrived in St. Paul. Continue Reading

Quite interesting that there is no mention in this political slight of hand promotion of how the GOP plan to pay for this property tax break for business owners. Guess what fellow property taxpayers? Average Joe, residential home owners are going to have to pay more to make up for the ‘break” to business owners. Did you think that local government and school districts were going to just trim their budgets to absorb the decrease in revenue? Think again folks. This is just another shell game of “No new taxes” (only for the wealthy) while the GOP sticksit to the rest of us.
Also not mentioned in the promo is the fact that the GOP in this bill plan to eliminate the credit that low income renters, who are mostly senior citizens and young families starting out, who get a yearly credit on some of the property taxes the landlords collect each month included in the rent. How nice will it be that the business owners will be able to get a tax break, pay their workers a welfare wage and have the workers pay more in property taxes and rent so owners can reap higher profits. Seems fair, right? Very wrong indeed!
I hate to break the news to you all, but there has NEVER been a single certified case or study to prove that giving property tax breaks to businesses provides additional or better jobs for the average person. It is totally an idea that plays on a voters sense of cutting government, which is good practice, but in reality passes the buck to those struggling to feed and house their families.
Please don’t be fooled by this double talk about boosting the economy. Without the smoke and mirrors this bill will only add to the pockets of the rich and once again, help to empty your pocket even more. I only hope and pray that the Governor has his veto pen in hand when this bill lands on his desk.

I wonder what the odds are that if that smaller “research” company comes up with a great idea, it will be stolen by it’s new “parent” company? Sounds like a big business set-up to me.
