“Hoodies for Justice” Day April 2 at UW-RF
March 30, 2012 at 3:20 am in River Falls Journal
There will be a campus and community forum on the recent shootings in Florida and Wisconsin from 5-6:30 p.m. at the Kinnickinnic Theater in the University Center at UW-River Falls on Monday, April 2. Continue Reading

Always a rush to judgement if it pushes your political agenda. Why not wait for the facts to sort themselves out? No one should expect justice to be quick in a case like this. Let FL and the Feds handle this then agree or disagree.

Maybe you could tell me how a 911 dispatcher becomes…”police”? You do realize dispatchers answer phones and communicate with officiers, don’t you?
Zimmerman was told by a dispatcher he did not need to follow Martin, as police were on the way…so explain why “not need” gets changed to “do not” by presumptive people?
The official (partial) police report: http://media.myfoxchicago.com/pdf/zimmerman-report.pdf
Why isn’t there outrage and protests over the death of any person gunned down? Why didn’t Obama address the senseless killing of two young European tourists who got lost in Miami last year, and got gunned down for “being in the wrong neighborhood?”
You’re comment at 4:13 pm speaks volumes about you Alice.

Treyvon was shot when he attacked Mr. Zimmerman, broke his nose, and was banging his head against the sidewalk. It’s all been verified by witnesses.

Hopefully I will never have to go to a jury trial around here and have you sitting on it in judgement. At this point we don’t know the whole story and you’ve already convicted Zimmerman.

“While I was in such close contact with Zimmerman, I could observe that his back appeared to be wet and was covered in grass, as if he had been laying on his back on the ground. Zimmerman was also bleeding from his nose and the back of his head…”
Zimmerman was placed in the rear of my police vehicle and was given first aid by the SFD.” – Officer Timothy Smith
Apparently those rallying and demanding “justice” want something other than the justice meted out by the criminal justice system after having a DA examine all the facts and make a determination as to whether a crime was committed or not and what the charges should be.
Always better to rush to judgment based on emotion instead of facts for them.

Rick, unfortunately a lot of the words you use in your comment presumes you know the truth (sources please). Reading the Sanford PD report reveals little of what you claim. Your information appears to come from unnamed media sources who may have interviewed people to get these additional facts. But those stories may be different than what those witnesses told police.
And now there is evidence NBC (and others) edited the 911 tapes to portray Zimmerman as a racist. What else have they edited/slanted/ignored to push what was apparently their big story?
No one who comments here wants to see any unarmed kid shot, and to presume that is horrible in itself. I am bothered by all the innocent people being killed because they got lost in the wrong neighborhood or caught in some drive-by shooting.
How about waiting for the DOJ to finish their investigation so we can find out what really happened?

Rick, please link your sources for your information. I haven’t heard many of the things you claim you’ve heard.
(BTW, putting more than one link in a post may cause it to be delayed in posting. If you’ve got multiple sources, please use multiple posts…I really would like to read your foundational sources. thank you)

We also now know that NBC has spliced together some of the 911 call, making Zimmerman’s motives seem much more suspect … they call it a “screw-up” I call it intentional incitement of the non-thinking public.

Once again…Alice presumes. How do you not see the hipocrisy? Regurgitating like worms? Really? What does that make you? I’m not looking to clear this man’s name, but also not looking to have him lynched by mob rule. See the difference?

The point here is that the rush to judgement is pushed by the so-called mainstream media. I belive because it fits their political agenda.
- Stricter gun control laws.
- fire up the leftwing base with claims of racial issues in order to get out the vote.
- Keep this story in the news to take attention away from the questional direction this administration is and has taken.
- eyes off the economy and gas prices for as long as possible.
- bigger Govt, make people believe only the federal Govt can solve problems like this because the local levels are corrupt

It seems to me the real racists are those wanting vigilante justice against the man of Peruvian-Jewish descent George Zimmerman instead of letting the justice system do it’s work. It’s possible maybe even likely that Zimmerman will be charged with a crime but I’d rather let the law take it’s course than to let people like Al Sharpton or the New Black Panthers mete out their version of “justice”. With fools like Jesse Jackson and Sharpton convicting Zimmerman in the court of public opinion it will only make it harder to find an unbiased jury if it comes to a trial.

Someone should tweet the home addresses of Roseanne Barr and Spike Lee so they can live in fear like the elderly couple whose address Spike and Roseanne tweeted thinking they were tweeting Zimmermann’s address. The couple are in fear for their lives now because of all the lunatics wanting to take “justice” into their own hands. The only possible reason for Roseanne and Spiking tweeting an address anyway would have been to set off vigilante justice against Zimmermann and since they got the address wrong the elderly couple are now being victimized.

Rick,
Thank your son for serving in the military. I pray he is safe and home soon.
Regardless of how many hours you spend watching news media, that still does not make that information 100% accurate. And I’ll agree with you, neither are police reports. But I did hear one media report the police investigator at the scene wanted to charge Zimmerman, but was overruled by the DA…I doubt his report is slanted to favor Zimmerman.
Professor Althouse posted about the voice biometrics connected with this case, and linked to other sources with greater info. And being a teacher, she even gives a little test for her readers. I suggest you look at her post and links, and read the comments over there.

Just because I don’t jump on the Zimmerman = guilty bandwagon with you does not make me racist or hoodie hating. If Zimmerman is charged and found guilty, he should face the severest penalty possible. But tell me, now that Jackson and Sharpton inserted themselves into creating a frenzy, where can Zimmerman get a fair trial?
Can you explain why Sharpton and Jackson jumped into this tragedy, while ignoring other tragic instances of youths (of all nationalities) being gunned down? Aren’t their lives as much of a loss as Trayvon?

I was quickly scanning some of the comments to the Althouse post I linked, and a lawyer posted the following information regarding Florida law:
“Bruce Hayden said…
(2) A law enforcement agency may use standard procedures for investigating the use of force as described in subsection (1), but the agency may not arrest the person for using force unless it determines that there is probable cause that the force that was used was unlawful.
It cannot be repeated too often here that Florida law is different than that found in many states. In many states, self-defense is an affirmative defense, which means that the prosecution only needs to show that there was probable cause to believe that the defendant killed the victim, and then the defense has the burden of going forward with the self-defense affirmative defense. This means that it is often fairly easy to arrest the killer, esp. at the early stages, since the defendant often has not had a chance to make his self-defense defense yet.
It is marketedly different in states like Florida. Once the possibility of self-defense has been raised (in this case, by Zimmerman claiming it up front), the killer cannot be arrested until and unless the state can establish probable cause that the killing was not in self-defense to overcome this defense.
And, to the point that the cops wanted to arrest Zimmerman, and were prevented by the DA’s office – keep in mind that the cops are not attorneys, and the prosecutors are, and are most likely to be better versed in the subtleties here.

Thank You for your words of support, I always share them with my son when we communicate. As for Sharpton and Jackson, I believe they have an agenda to creat some racial tensions. I have not made any comments into their actions, but when you listen to them, they seem to be pushing in that direction with simple threats to anyone who disagrees with them. That is how I feel often. When you have a difference of opinion, you get targeted fairly quick. I have dealt with small town politics that went to the extreme, dragging my family and I into the local legal system, where we got treated like everything we did was abnormal and wrong. we were discriminated against by everyone in the system. I have even written a book in regards to this. There is really no reason for anyone to be on a bandwagon, because it is only the legal system that will do anything with the case. As for the officer wanting to arrest Zimmerman and the DA stopping it. I believe that 100%. I was assaulted by the head of our small town police committee and the man got off the charges due to the DA and the town attorney getting together before the police report was even completed. No charges were set before anything was completed by the cops. DA have way too much authority when it comes to charging people, and there needs to be guidelines set so they are not able to interfere with law enforcement and the decisions they make. Our small town mayor is also a county deputy, and he was told everything about the assault by the suspect, and did not inform the investigating officer, nor his boss the Sheriff. This should have been looked at as well, but was ignored by our legal system all together. I know for a fact that the legal systems in this country can be corrupt, as well as taking wrongful actions against the accused and the victims when they could care less about who they are. And as far as my claims with my situation, the truth came out in the courtroom about their interactions. When an officer is provided information of a crime, it is their duty to report it, not suppress it.as for all the thumbs down to my statements, it could very well be the very same people that have discriminated against everything I have stood up for, and that is equality among all humans, not just for the “special” people in society.
