America has turned around worse problems than trucker bombs, and it can turn around this problem, too. Continue Reading

I blame men for this. I’m 99.9% certain it’s them.

Well TJ there has been a pattented Woman’s Urnal avaliable for several years now…They’d put them into public rest rooms if women would just stand up for their right…..Just saying

First off as a trucker I know we have some real dumb asses that do this and throw out other litter at places on ramps that have lead to tougher sanctions for even stopping on them for us. But I do take exception to this litter being dubbed “Trucker Bombs” because it gives the impression this is a trucking problem and not a public problem. The big containers maybe, but the bottle bombs are used by just as many people in cars that can’t hold to the next station or rest area. So I really wish they’d just change it to something like “Drive By Bombs.”
As for the part about putting out cans in places……In places like IA, IN, OK, WY, TX and ND that have some seperate low to no facilities rest areas (Often these were either once a full rest area or state weigh station…Some have just built big parking areas for trucks) When they have garbage cans they generally are used and the places are kept clean. One of the problems though is that there’s not a lot of truck parking available most of the time in most states. Most truck stops don’t have enough real estate and they get full quick, and rest areas a generally few and far apart…..So often the only other option is pulling off the road and staying on either the off ramp side or on ramp side, and that’s where you often find the worse of these messes (Then again it’s not all trucks).
We have these strict regulations that along with the elog systems a lot of companies have switched to forces us to drive strictly by the book, and that too has resulted in more trucks needing to park basically in the same time frame…..The public can’t have it both ways…You can’t take away our ability to drive when we’re awake and sleep when we’re tired so that we all end up just driving mostly daylight and shut down dusk to dawn and then say “Sorry…No parking allowed…Anywhere……..More parking facilities with a simple out house or two and garbage cans (Like the rest areas the converted west of Fargo into truck parking)….Or just a paved strip that will hold some trucks like they have on I35 in OK. If states put out more pull of areas with refuse dumps I know you’d see far less “Bomb” litter out there…..
I was hoping to get your take on this. Well done my friend.

“Tougher penalties and stricter enforcement would be a start.”
Completely and totally the WRONG place to start. A carryover from the crazy notion that plain ol’ ordinary people are trying to get themselves killed by “driving too fast”; and the nanny mentality that they have to be forcibly slowed down by police. That it enriches the State (fines) and the Insurance Industry (increased insurance premiums) assures that justice is unlikely to prevail.
Let’s start with the boneheads in North Dakota government that CLOSED all the rest areas in the rural, desolate areas, keeping (and expanding) only the ones closest to the big cities–exactly where they were LEAST needed. Money wasn’t the issue, because the rest areas that were retained became Theme Parks–grandiose structures with expensive facades.
Last I looked, urine and feces were biodegradable. We need a constitutional amendment to prohibit wildlife from dumping in the ditches, too. Birds speckle my car–can they be arrested? The problem is that the human excrement is encased in plastic. The plastic is the bigger part of that problem.
