GRAND FORKS (WDAZ-TV) – Property taxes would be eliminated if voters approve Measure 2 on the June ballot, and at the public forum on Thursday night, people seemed to oppose the measure. Continue Reading

Since I pay over 5 times more in state income taxes than federal income taxes, I prefer elimination of state income taxes but I’ll vote for
this. Why is Cory Fong sticking his nose into this; both he and his wife are on the state payroll. That’s a conflict of interest!

Why would it be hard for the Legislature to figure that it would be much better to have a local income tax in place of the property tax.? It would be so much more fair than the horribly inequitable system we have with property taxes. The inherit qualities of the property tax concept can’t be fixed. The legislature has the power to grant local governments taxing authority such as the local income tax. That would not be a net increase in taxes. It would be a trade that would benefit all the taxpayers enormously of having a piece of mind that they are secure in their homes.

The State has a surplus, we are taking in $4.8 million dollars a day, yes a day this is more than enough to cover all property taxes. The legislature current proposal for next session would actually tax farmers more they are proposing to tax their houses. Think about it if you pay even double, not that would happen, but if you had to, Would you buy $30,000 worth of stuff to make up for the $3000 in property tax you might have to pay? What percentage of Grand Forks budget comes from property tax? go to bbuz.biz to see
