Lehrke, who previously said he was considering a legislative run, says on Facebook that he is campaigning to replace the retiring Rep. John Kriesel. Continue Reading

I don’t suppose he will do the right thing and step down from his council seat in September after the official filing. This could be great. The couple both won an election in 2010 and they could both lose an election in 2012!

Why should he? Jen Peterson didn’t.

Come on Buzz, you and I had this conversation when Jen was running. You said she should step down, as it was a conflict and her attention would be focused on running a campaign and not her duties as a city councilmember. I agreed with you and still do. That’s why I brought it up this time.

yup, you’re right Chris … we did. These people that run for city councils should give their focus to their city and should fulfill the obligation. Local government in any community should treat partisan politics like a plague. In this forum I’ve seen the Lehrke’s criticized while other’s that do similar things draw no attention. It makes me wonder what the rest of the story really is.

That’s true, Jen didn’t but she did get ripped on by a member of the Lehrke family for “using her experience on city council as a stepping stone for seeking higher office”. I wonder if that person would care to eat their words now? Or maybe it’s ok now because it’s Derrick and not someone else.
