Official: Don’t pass Measure 2

“Ill-advised” and “reckless” were just two of the words a North Dakota Chamber of Commerce leader used to describe Measure 2 at a presentation Monday at the Gladstone Inn & Suites.

This is the third time that the Chamber of Commerce has held a forum and refuses to allow proponents to speak. They don’t want debate. They don’t want you to know the other side of the issue. This event in April hosted by NDTA? It’s a debate with both sides presenting the issue. That’s because NDTA wants people to know all sides of the issue. And NDTA is NOT a proponent. If you want to hear what the supporters of M2 say, go to YesM2.com. Are you going to trust people who repeatedly shut down all debate and silence all who disagree?

Interesting comment about squelching debate and allowing one side to speak. However, not true, the Jamestown Chamber is already opposed to M2 so why should they be hosting events for the proponents? Let them host their own events and spout there lies. The Jamestown Chamber does not need to provide them a pulpit.
Also, how does the lawsuit that was filed by the proponents help the debate it sought to silence elected officials, the very people who have the expertise on the budgeting process in this state and community, because well they disagreed with Charlene Nelson.
Charlene is the chairwoman of the Measure 2 sponsoring committee, she is also a municipal court judge, that sounds very public officially to me. The basics of the lawsuit are public officials cannot speak on this measure because they don’t agree with what I am saying, so I am going to sue them. Now that certainly encourages debate.
Again, this may be the 3rd time the Jamestown Chamber has hosted and event and they have every right to do so. They are OPPOSED to the Measure, so the proponents shouldn’t be invited to speak. If the proponents want to host an event let them do it. They held one in Valley City and didn’t invite the other side. But you don’t see the other side crying about that.
