TOM MILLER: Ride finally ends
March 25, 2012 at 7:23 pm in Grand Forks Herald
Twenty minutes after UND’s season ended Sunday with a 5-2 loss to Minnesota in the championship game of the NCAA West Regional, Sioux players slouched in their locker room stalls in the depths of the Xcel Energy Center. Many still in full gear, they stared blankly into the distance at nothing in particular. Continue Reading

Road games are when you play at anothers home rink. The Sioux won 3 neutral site games and split the two “road” games.

That is true except the Gophers still played 4 games that were all home games. Quite an advantage.

i’m sorry, but mario l. is not a warrior. yes he plays hard, but he can’t control himself. it’s embarrassing that he is our captain while punching a player 6-7 times in the head during the third period. real classy. and why does ben blood have a A on his jersey again?

I would disagree with Kristo. The NCCA was prudent enough to give North Dakota a top seed. So, they thought this team was good enough to go this far and possibly farther. It is kind of small to complain of injures and other losses as reason for losing. Everyone has those problems. Some greater than others. The point is that each school puts it’s best team on the ice and then play with all their heart to win. Someone has to win and someone has to lose. It doesn’t mean the players didn’t do their best. It just means on that day, one team was better than the other.

A remarkable season end streak from a great bunch of road warriors. They played with only 17 players for the last third of the season. Many players played multiple positions to cover for injured or missing players. They won at home and won the road. Our goalies gave our guys a chance to win games by thier sharp play. Guys who normally would have sat on the bench were thrown into the starting lineups and became regulars. Regular starters played unbelievable minutes during games.
It was supposed to be a rebulding year. Instead we came one game from going to the big games. Awesome season! Awesome season! Hats of to the guys who went out there to grind it out night after night. It was one hell of a long battle and our guys did real well. Next year is gonna be fun. With injured guys healthy, a rested returning crew and a few new guys we are going to have a hell of a season next year. I can’t wait!
