Wondering if there’s a law on the books that allows the county to go back and capture taxes that a ‘sane person’ should have knowingly realised taxes are due but failed to act to avoid paying.
I’m sure this problem exists unfortunately at some level in all counties. After moving back in 2005 I took plat book and notebook in hand and criss crossed nearly all of Douglas County looking for land sites in areas I thought would be perfect home locations. After comparing my notes to County assessments I realised there are an large amount of people not paying their fair share. Especially misuse of the forestry zoning status, which can knock your tax base down to next to nothing. [Not knocking anybody or any governmental department - just saying there are several pieces of land I wouldn't mind owning at their valuation]
