   If two people were each to leave downtown New Richmond, one traveling West on Hwy 64 through Stillwater and the other traveling South on Hwy 65 to Hwy 94, what would be the time differential if the destination were St. Paul or Minneapolis? I’m guessing it would be negligible, am I right? Surely, we are not debating that New Richmond needs to be connected to Stillwater.

   I do understand that this is an important sensitive issue at the local level, but in the big picture of being a nearly broke country it doesn’t equate much. I will be working in Hudson and Afton the next month or so and would really appreciate someone contacting me and taking me up on the time trials that I have proposed.

  Don,
  the people in New Richmond do a lot of work, shop and go to school in the Stillwater and Maplewood area and it does save a lot of time going through stillwater than going around through Hudson. I know you are big on saving the money because we are broke in this country and I agree with that but with the current adminstration and fed in this country the money will be spent and not saved and they will print more and it might as well be spent on replacing our dangerous bridge than some other project that probably be worse even in your eyes like light rail or someone in congresses other pet project. I am not sure if you saw the history channel show on the bridge but yes it needs to be replaced

  That is bold and honest answer and I thank you for it. Unfortunately if there is any hope to our country surviving the financial atrocities going on in DC that thought process needs to change. You and a growing majority are basically saying as long as I get ‘something’ I am satisfied that the government is working for me. That something appears to be the Stillwater Bridge, MnDOT approved as “safe” at the local level and somehow decisively downgraded to a 32.8 rating on the House floor, which apparently is somewhere between bridge about to collapse and bridge is currently collapsing.
