Limbaugh says his apology to student was sincere; more advertisers leave show
March 5, 2012 at 7:55 am in Grand Forks Herald
Radio host Rush Limbaugh also joked that he, too, got a busy signal today when he called the show to join the growing roster of advertisers abandoning it. The student, Sandra Fluke, said Limbaugh’s apology did nothing to change the corrosive tone of the debate over health care coverage and that Americans have to decide whether they want to support companies that continue to advertise on his program.

What a boring old fool, Limbaugh has become. What does it say about a republican party that listens to a drug addict, thinks the president is a Kenyan terrorist, and that we need to lower taxes already at historic lows? It should tell you they are completely out of touch with the times.

I thought Rush would have to drown a baby in public before his base would wake up. Following the opinions of a hypocritcal drug addict and 4 time divorce is not how to go through life boys….
The republican party would fit in a KKK rally room today-no matter how much noise they make. This is all very enlightening…

Rush was caught in a sex trafficking area of Dominican Republic on a Fox plane with 4 other guys and a bottle of Viagra that was prescribed to his doctor. Now if he admitted that he was a slut and was paid by Fox to have sex, and made a week long deal about his behavior, maybe post a couple of videos (wouldn’t that be worth watching), then maybe he could admit he was trying to be funny and just looking to get a rise from his audience. But right now he’s just caving to his sponsors.

Craig: To say Rush Limbaugh speaks for the Republican Party is so typical. If you believe that, you can’t be taken seriously. I think it was Bill Maher who brought Rush’s name up and described him as a leader of the Republican party. He’s no more the voice for Republicans than Ed Schultz or Bill Maher is the voice for your side. Very few Republicans are as rude and unfair as Limbaugh. Both sides have plenty of bores and numbskulls. Only a closed mind would think otherwise.

Alvin, Republicans themselves admit that some are afraid of Limbaugh. Romney just said he wouldn’t have chosen those words, but left me wondering if he agreed with the sentiments. Let’s be honest here…some women that use contraceptives are sluts and prostitutes. Not all of them but yes indeed some are. When they are having sex I would prefer they used a condom even if they are on birth control.
Some men are also sluts and prostitutes. It’s not just a term used to describe loose women. Loose men qualify as well. These men should especially be using condoms. I would appreciate it if they did.
If I had to pay for the condom I would just to stop the spread of disease or the chance that they will concieve. Not everybody should be a parent. Their irresponsibility can cost us more than a condom.
Maybe if we buy them in a large enough quantity we can get the price down to a nickle a piece. It would be cheaper than trying to combat the spread of disease people of low moral character spread around. They often don’t have health insurance and we pick up the tab.

About 20 years ago I was a Rush fan of sorts. I appreciated his arrogance in taking on the liberals with one hand tied behind his back. I watched his TV show. (Yes, he used to have one.) Then one night shortly after Clinton was elected I was watching Rush. There was a TV behind him which would show various pictures and he would comment. Chelsea Clinton, then almost 13, was on the screen when Rush looked back, spun around, and grimaced in horror as if he’d just seen the Wicked Witch of the West. That was the last time I watched his show or listened to him on the radio. I may not agree with what Sandra Fluke said, but Rush was way out of line in what he said. I would not accept his “apology” either. His vitriolic comments were totally in line with his despicable behavior almost exacatly 20 years ago. Rush is a jerk. He was years ago and nothing has changed.

Did any of you actually listen to Ms. Fluke’s testimony? Oh the horrors being visited on college students that don’t get free birth control pills as part of their health coverage. It was the most overwrought testimony for getting freebies I’ve ever listened to. So instead of exercising their right to choose, and move on to an organization that chooses to provide birth control pills in their insurance coverage, she wants to force every company and school to provide them for free, and everyone to share in those costs, whether they need that type of coverage or not. She called this lack of coverage a medical catastrophe. Maybe we should get them to provide free condoms as well. How about free food? Free gasoline? Free drinks? After all, they’re all essential for the quality of life for a college student, and would better spread the costs to everyone, rather than the set of parents that are usually responsible for the little urchins. Sandra Fluke however, is 30 years old and should be able to buy her own pills. So, we must all somehow have to chip in through increased health insurance premiums and pay for her to have sex. Huh, I wonder what you would call that?
Hot debate. What do you think?
37
41
You know what.. For me this issue breaks itself down into simple terms. If we provide birth control maybe.. maybe.. we’ll have less people showing up at abortion clinics. While I do support a woman’s right to choose, I would prefer that other avenues are utilized before it comes to such a drastic choice. Second, hopefully it will also help with the issue with the number of single mothers or the number of children in foster care. Maybe it will even reduce the number of people on the welfare rolls.
I know those are a lot of maybe’s.. The realization is that our youth are having sex at earlier and earlier ages. If offering free birth control to women helps reduce abortions or the number of children in foster care I’m all for it.

Twenty-eight states already mandate what Fluke and many others are advocating. This is not a ground-breaking idea. In fact, it is a Repubilcan idea to mandate reproductive health coverage for women as a basic fundamental of health insurance. Repubican legislators of all kinds have signed off on this legislation over many, many years. This is not new and its not radical. It’s good policy that keeps costs down. Providing birth control coverage saves money big time. It would cost much more if it weren’t covered. And it’s not even free birth control. We pay premiums for our coverage and that’s no different for birth control as for any other preventative measure such as cancer screenings. This is a distration; a wedge issue that was initially promoted by the GOP but it has now gotten away from them and is actually a liability. But they took this stand out of desperation and now there’re going to have to pay the price politically and they will when they lose in November.

You can change the subject and discuss the merits of free birth control, but this piece is not really about that. Talk radio is a disease. Greasy: Calling Palin a failed beauty queen and/or unfit to rule are not personal attacks. Both are rooted in fact.
I spent a good many years as a historian studying women and gender. Palin and Bachman insult 51% of the population. No one can tell me there is not a conservative woman out there who can put a noun and a verb together in the same sentence and have the intellectual capacity to formulate then defend a legitimate argument.
Hillary scares me. She is like a moth to the flame when it comes to power. That is why I was not one of the 18 million cracks in the glass ceiling. That said, regardless of how you feel about her politics (as a Libertarian I disagree with her on almost everything) no one can deny she is intelligent, articulate, and does not have to rely on zingy, superficial sound bites to get her point across.
The closest the Republicans have come to date is Elisabeth Dole. Somewhere in a state legislature or city council is the female Republican who can compete.

Greasy: Bristol got savaged because she chose to be a public figure. She was well compensated for her troubles. When you choose to put yourself out there, people will either love you or do their best to take you down. Just ask any American Idol contestant.
Palin is unfit to serve because she does not have the requisite intellectual stamina to keep up with the smartest people in the world. It is really that simple. Ditto for Bachman. Every time I hear either one speak (and remember I have more in common with the core beliefs of the Tea Party than the Big O) I hear Franky Vallie from Grease sing Beauty School drop out.
You need to be more discriminating Greasy. Just because someone is socially conservative does not make them fit to lead, it just means they are socially conservative.
I wrote earlier about the difference between social conservatives and true conservatives and reminded everyone that if Regan ran today he probably would not get elected. That should be a wake up call for the Republicans.
America is center right, not far right. If they insist on electing Santorum or Gingrich to represent them, the Big O will win by 10 points. Romney means the Big O wins by 5 points.
The hatred of Obama is not enough to bring the middle of the nation over to the Republican side, and without that middle the Republicans are doomed.

2008 was a given for the Democrats. America was so turned off by W that the Democrats could have run a sheep and it would have won. The 2008 election was not decided in November, it was decided when the Big O beat out Hillary for the Democratic nod.

Agreed Glen. Like I said above, the problem is not Rush, or Hannity, or that ex Fargo dude on MSNBC. The problem is with the American public.
We have a large group of people who accept whatever these talking heads say without blinking an eye. The Bible talks about how a good Christian should be like the Berean’s who looked up and fact checked everything that came out of the Apostle Paul’s mouth.
We have a country of sheep and it will lead to our destruction. If you believe anything Fox News or MSNBC says the ruin of the free world is on your head.
The Big O ran against the Patriot Act (the most despicable peace of legislation in the last 100 years) yet it is still in place. Why is no one talking about that?
The Republicans are trying to outlaw a religion (Islam) by saying anything associated with Sharia law cannot be followed in the US. I don’t know how many of these yahoo ever took a law class in college, but the basis of the American judicial system is English Common Law and English Common Law has its genesis in the Bible. Are we going to outlaw any law with a religious background?
Americans have no one to blame but themselves. We are to be pitied. We have lost the ability to discern right from wrong, good from evil.
We think entertainers speak for God while prosecuting those who point out the errors of those positions.
America is doomed, but like Rome its demise is from the inside. It is from people who no longer think it is important to check what someone says against the facts.

What I find absolutely hilarious is the complete disregard for reality many of the posts above illustrate. Rush mispeaks once or twice over the course of his years on the radio adn the lefties can’t wait to bring up his past drug issues etc. Meanwhile, the left is riddled with scuzballs who are using drugs at this very minute and nothing is uttered. So true. Rush had a legitimate medical need for prescription pain relievers and unfortunately got hooked on them. President Obama on the other hand used drugs such as cocaine just for recreational use and actually seems proud of that to this day when he says things like. “Of course I inhaled. That was the idea”. When Bill Clinton gave an apology speech to the nation apologizing for his affair with Monica and lying about it we were all supposed to believe he was sincere and forgive and forget. Rush has acknowledged he did the wrong thing and has given what he says is his sincere apology but apparently he doesn’t get the same forgiveness that Bill Clinton did. It seems like I’ve seen liberals use the “Judge not lest ye be judged” when it serves their purposes. It doesn’t apply though when they’re out to tar and feather someone they disagree with.

I hate to sound mean, but there is no such thing as an acceptable reason to become addicted. I understand you wanting to stand by your man, but lets not forgive what in the end is a conscious decision.
Michael Jackson died because no one bothered to tell him no. Rush was and is in the same boat. Addicts cannot exist without people who enable their eventual death.
Do not make light of what is inexcusable. God forgives, but demands repentance. We must adopt the same attitude.
The last thing an addict needs, any addict, is “its ok, you didn’t mean to destroy everything around you. I understand. You are not at fault.”

I guess you misunderstood flyingnurse. When I was talking about Rush sincerely apologizing it wasn’t for his drug use but for the issue at hand which is that he apologized to the young woman for what he said about her. As far as Rush’s drug use I have no knowledge of his continued use after he realized the problem I think he got off the prescriptions. Anyway Mr. Southern Baptist I think you should take to heart Matthew 18:21 Then Peter came up and said to him, “Lord, how often shall my brother sin against me, and I forgive him? As many as seven times?” 18:21 Jesus said to him, “I do not say to you seven times, but seventy times seven.”

Good point Westby. More than I few people have reminded me that I sometimes lack in the forgiveness department. Being an ER nurse means giving someone the benefit of the doubt was burned out of me years ago.
Oxy and all the other prescription killers are nothing new. People have been addicted to prescription pain meds for as long as I have been a nurse. It is sad that right after we discuss pain control in school we have to discuss the “X” percentage of patients that will do whatever it takes to get their fix.
When I started it was Demerol. Now it is Oxy. In the end they are all the same.
It is not so much forgiveness (although like I said I could use a healthier dose of that considering what God has forgiven me for) but “physician do no harm.” Remember Michael Jackson was killed by an MD, not a crack head.
Shutting off an addict is the best thing I can do for them. Giving them another 20 tablets just to get them out of the ER so I can take care of the other, more legitimate complaints makes my job easier, but it means I am breaking the Prime Directive.

I thought this would end up multipage when I saw it. Just can’t see why anyone would be defending the kind of rhetoric that Limpy has been using against women. It just goes way beyond the birth control/insurance/religion things.
Did he do this just to boost ratings, since he hasn’t been in the spotlight for a while, or what?

I think this will be the last word…But for those of us who have loathed the Rushed one for years…..Doesn’t just irk you like it does me that he’s getting so much attention for doing something wrong? It’s the old adage in practice “There’s no such thing as bad publicity.” Rush is getting light years of publicity which only endears him more to the far left….Unless he’s caught in something like his hand in the drug jar again…Items like this really only help him in the long run….More listeners….More sponsors stepping in……Basically…We’ve been dupped by our own sense of outrage over something that just doesn’t registar on the right as even being wrong……

This is only wrong if someone on the right does it. Transgressions by the left are accepted and applauded. I don’t think Rush has had this much publicity for a long time. His ratings should really skyrocket now.

Nah, wrong is wrong.
Especially if you do it three days in a row.
Waiting for the FCC’s decision. The cheif ‘feminazi’s’ really put it to ol’ Rush, didn’t they?

“The left needs Rush Limbaugh for the same reason that Oceania needed Emmanuel Goldstein, as an object for their Two Minute Hates that exorcise the doubts that their ideology breeds in its own followers. By denouncing Limbaugh in an orgy of hate, rising to their feet, shaking their fists and spitting at the screen, the progressives feel a temporary sense of relief from the worry that they have allowed reactionary racist attitudes to creep into their minds, that they have eaten food that isn’t locally grown, shopped at K-Mart or sympathized with Israel. A symbol of opposition soothes their insecurities better than volunteering at a soup kitchen, donating money to Africa or some other visible symbol of bleeding heart do-goodism can.”
That was from Daniel Greenfield…I couldn’t have said it better myself : )
