BP’s settlement of lawsuits filed by more than 100,000 victims of the worst offshore oil spill in U.S. history goes a long way toward resolving pending claims. But the question remains, will Americans who live along the Gulf of Mexico go for it? BP expects to pay out $7.8 billion and anticipates that a separate claims fund run by Ken Feinberg will cease at some point. New vehicles will be set up and supervised by the court to pay claims as part of Friday’s settlement. Continue Reading

You are so right greasy ken. But, no body is really paying for it yet. Most of the family Shrimpers have already lost their way of life because it took a few years for the Gulf to recover after Katrina…then the oil spill 2 years ago have wiped out shrimp, oysters, fishing again. All along the Gulf Coast most have not gotten paid for over 2 years again from this disaster. How long can the average family last (going thru recovery twice) without a payday?
How long will it take for the Gulf to recover from this? No one knows….so far the Gulf is not producing like it was.
BP should have to be making monthly payments to the fishermen & women until the Gulf really has recovered. So far many haven’t seen a dime.
And there will be many illnesses involved in this for many…. no one still knows what the chemical make up of the coexit, used as a dispersion is, to be able to monitor the health of the sea life…. daily the smell of fuel oil could be noticed even 10 miles or more from the coast for months. Gov. Barbour from MS would tell people it was just ‘lawn mower gas’ they were breathing in???????
It’s very sad & the economy along the Gulf Coast are is very bad for many.
