I think this is a great summary of this issue. We need to hold Hoeven and Berg’s feet to the fire on having taken the extreme positions they took on this against women’s ability to have adequate health converage including contraceptive care. This issue takes the Republican party back to the 1960′s. Issues of equal pay for equal work have begun to be questioned by some GOP’ers. They have become too radical and extreme in their retrograde stances on these issues.

So following the Constitution of this country and not violating it is an extreme position?

Nutrition is necessary for health; should the taxpayers pay for that, too?

Actually, health insurance premiums pay for what an individual gets. Premiums not taxpayers, Kevin. The issue is if employers have the right to cover what they want to cover in health care insurance. Personally, I’d eliminate Viagra converage for all the old white guys that can’t do it anymore. But that’s just me.

No the issues is can the Federal Government force religious organization to provide and pay for something that is against their religious beliefs? According to the Constitution of this country it can not.
The women can get all the contraceptives they want on their own. Or make the men involved pay for them.

A religious exemption has been provided. The ammendment lets the insurance company provide the coverage not the religious organization. But of course that is not your real objection. Some have gone so far as to say that the wages paid by religious organizations are fungible and thereby go to provide contraceptives. This is crazy. The irony of all of this is that there is nothing new here. These policies have been approved by Repubican governors, Republican legislators and, in fact, the idea of covering contraceptives for women was originally a Republican idea, endorsed by all as a step toward saving money for women’s health care. Suddenly it becomes a bone of contention. This is a stupid election year non-issue meant to inflame the far right base of the Repubican party. It’s framed as a religious freedom issue and you’re buying it. As I’ve said before, the far right is easily led. Think for yourself, man.
