Golf course contract approved by Two Harbors City Council

Talk about the golf course raised quite a few eyebrows Monday night. The Two Harbors City Council debated how much the new contract between Tee-Line Management and the city should be worth. Tee-Line Management will be paid $30,000 to manage the golf course pro shop.

Let me get this straight:
First, the Council approves selling the THCC organization their building for $10.00 and a committment to manage the golf pro shop for no charges. Then, a year later, the THCC organization trys to refuse to manage the shop unless they are paid?
And now the council “negotiates” a fee of $30,000 from THCC’s management arm “Tee-Line” to manage the shop? Considering how long the golf course is open during a normal season, that is an equivalent rate of around $60,000/year.
Just who is it in the Council that negotiates these types of agreements in the first place? The original “sale” agreement should have had a performance agreement clause requiring the THCC to perform the management function at no charge, or make a penalty payment to the city for the building purchase. And the amount and term of the payment should have been specified, along with other appropriate terms.
Thank you Mary Rosati for speaking up. Are you and Chris Swanson the only sane fiscal folks on the Council? The rest of these guys don’t seem to get it when it comes to protecting the best interests of the city taxpayers.
And just what additional benefit does the city gain by giving away golf passes when the course needs every dollar it can get? Whoever negotiated any part of this deal needs to be voted out next election, and someone who understands money management elected.
The newspaper articles on the city management, the council and the mess with contract negotiations sure point out the basic lack of good management understanding that seems to be a hallmark of too many members of the city council. And now, one of the fiscally responsible voices, Chris Swanson, I understand has resigned!
I don’t understand how the Two Harbors voting public can allow most of these council folks to run their city? Two Harbors needs some courageous and properly experienced people to address the paths it needs to follow to improve its financial position, and, unforthnately, I don’t see much of that on the current Council.
So, what’s new in the political world today, I guess….
