The sound and the fury: Some fed up with sirens’ noise

FREEMAN Murray Preheim said he’s been to the big city. He has heard the daily hum, rumble and cacophony of the Big Apple. He came home to Freeman for a little peace and quiet. Continue Reading

Every small town that I have been in blows a siren two or three times a day. Definitely at noon and at 6PM. There isn’t a small town so large, that no matter where you live you will hear it. Even with a wrist watch or cell phone, when kids get absorbed in playing they aren’t going to take the time out to see if it is time to go home for supper. This is where the siren reminds them.
I can remember my late mother telling that when she and her siblings were playing at neighbors and her mother wanted them home before the siren blew she would stand on the porch and hollar “yoo hoo!” They found that embarassing.
I guess if Mr. Preheim finds New York so much more civil and quiet he should go back there.
